The coal lobby's latest nonsense economics report is due out tomorrow. Coal Australia claims 782,000 jobs. ABS says 40,000 🤔

It’s going to be fun times on Australia this summer. When your place is burning down remember the @albomp.bsky.social government has approved some of the biggest new fossil fuel export projects in the world.
Given Penny Wong’s tremendous support for international law, I’m expecting a strong condemnation any moment now. x.com/AlArabiya_En...

So funny. The ALP National Conference statement on gas tax: “Labor will ensure that the Australian people *receive a fairer return* from their natural resources including through appropriate taxation arrangements...blah blah blah' So if they raise an extra $5...mission success!
The Australian Government should be trying to get the best deal it can for Australians when selling our natural resources. Instead, over half of the gas we export is given away for free! #auspol @markogge.bsky.social
The foreign owned corporations exporting Australia's gas to make an extra $27 billion in windfall profits this year. Our Government will give them most of this gas for free and Australians will get virtually nothing. Support a 25% tax on gas exports!✍️👇 www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Faced with a gas reservation policy, the Big Gas exporters who have spent the last decade whipping up fear of a gas shortage now say supplying more gas will mean the Australian gas market is oversupplied. Great to confirm we don’t need more drilling! thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...
Great news! Australia's local governments have voted overwhelmingly to make foreign owned fossil fuel exporters pay for the costs of damage to the climate they are causing Instead of ratepayers! au.news.yahoo.com/polluter-pai...
The same day top mining lobbyist Tania Constable claimed @australiainstitute.org.au criticisms of the government’s safeguard mechanism were “ridiculous" ....turns out the government paid foreign owned gas exporter/ tax cheat - Shell $90m free carbon offsets despite INCREASING it’s emissions

Your daily reminder how much revenue the Albanese Government has NOT collected from foreign own gas corporations who get most of our gas they export FOR FREE. $72 billion. Thats $6,600 every Australian household missed out on. Sad day for you Aussies. gas.australiainstitute.org.au
Did you know the QLD Government lets foreign owned gas giant and notorious tax avoider Shell frack some of QLD’s best cropping land, causing land to subside making it unusable and causing water tables to fall? Your politicians are in the pocket of Big Gas. www.thechronicle.com.au/subscribe/ne...
NT governments climate plan is to destroy the climate. Making the NT hotter, drier and Territorians lives WORSE. All for bugger all jobs or taxes. Just grifters making their mates rich instead of improving the lives of Territorians. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06...
The corporate press know their take is BS. They just lie continually because they are gas industry glove puppets. Even if some of this gas does go to households (unlikely) it just means more gas from other fields is exported. It’s a shell game. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06...
Huge amounts of land we could have built housing, will drive up house prices, electricity prices, and waste vast amounts of water. SFA jobs or taxes… just to make foreign tech giants rich. There is no one our political class won’t sell us out to. www.nine.com.au/australia-ne...
If our governments don’t start making fossil fuel corporates pay for the damage they are causing, ordinary Australians will be left holding the can. Support The Australia Institute’s climate disaster levy on coal as gas exports. 🧵👇 theconversation.com/climate-chan...
Foreign owned gas giant INPEX gets all the gas FOR FREE, exports all of it, doesn’t pay PRRT, very little corporate tax, and is cashing in on skyrocketing global gas prices… … but just can’t afford to pay its workers properly 🤷 www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06...
Santos, the company that deliberately caused the east coast gas crisis to gouge Australians for $ billions, leaks oil and gas leaks all over the place and hasn’t paid corporate tax for a decade.. … what could possibly go wrong!?! www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Why does the Australian Government prioritise foreign owned gas corporations over Australians? Japanese gas giant INPEX: - exports more gas than NSW, Vic and SA use combined - pays no royalties or petroleum tax - pays virtually no corporate tax australiainstitute.org.au/report/big-g...
Great piece on how Aus coal and gas decisions impact Asian countries. NSW stopped coal mines. Korea will end coal sooner. Feat Solutions for Our Climate in @newcastleherald.bsky.social www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/920499...
Hey Australians If the Albanese Government hadn't been letting the gas industry rip us off since 2022, we could have had: 💰Free TAFE and university, or 💰Free universal childcare, or 💰$2,500 each Bummer! australiainstitute.org.au/report/we-ha...
Luckily The Australia Institute can help! Last year the Australian Government gave the fossil fuel industry $16.3 billion of taxpayers money, $31,000 a minute, more than it spends on our airforce. Link to research in comments 👇 www.abc.net.au/news/science...
WELD Australia CEO Geoff Crittenden adds his voice to support for a 25% tax on gas exports. "If a 25% tax on gas exports gives us $17 billion a year to invest, then the real question is not whether we can afford to act. It’s whether we can afford not to." thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...

Australia Institute data finds state and federal subsidies for coal, gas and oil products increased 10% in past year, growing at a faster pace than funding to NDIS

This conflict is likely to drive global gas prices through the roof. Because the Australian Government gives most of our the gas to Big Gas exporters for free, and the PRRT is broken, Big Gas will make massive windfall profits and Australians will get virtually nothing.
Economist Chris Richardson on the PRRT "We made a mistake in the economics as we set it up and, as it changed from oil to gas, that mistake became a fatal mistake." That was 38 YEARS AGO...our governments have been literally giving our gas away ever since www.canberratimes.com.au/story/918833...
Finally an Australian Parliamentary inquiry proposed into why Australian governments have been giving away Australia's gas to multinational gas corporations FOR FREE. Will the major parties who have been giving the gas away for decades support it? thepoint.com.au/news/260303-...
