A memory from summer 10 years ago. I was kindly invited by Marc Turner to judge the Warrington Art Club annual awards. Judging an art contest is difficult, so here I was aided by my custom made cornuthaum, which as wizards will attest acts like a lens to focus mental energies. #art #Warrington #hats

Drawing. I draw by hand and use 'crosshairs' to place objects. There are many shortcuts possible in art, but drawing by hand -imperfectly- is essential, otherwise your work would look like everyone else's. There's no point in being an artist if your work looks like everyone else's. #art #drawing

I think this was my first ever internet profile picture, 2005. I pretty much didn't speak or engage with humans, except by letter and email, from the age of 18 to 34, when I joined my first art club. Painting changed me from a programmer into an artist. #art #painting

Another 6 hours on this, 'Crushed Are The Meek' is done! I perhaps spent too long on intricate detail, but detail aside and like any layered oil painting, my work looks a lot better in real life than in a digital image. #art #painting #oilpainting #surrealism

Underpainting complete! I generally use finer weave than this, but this canvas is wonderful for large format work, this painting about a metre wide. A good painting looks 'finished' at every stage but there's a lot of detail and colouration to come. #art #painting #oilpainting #sun
