Marley, a Werewolf of Wall Street

I’m reminded of the time ~8 years ago that a tree root grew into a sewer pipe under the brownstone where we lived. The apprentice was under 25 w/a young child. He may have been on a path to a lucrative trade job, but that day, he was the one who had to jump into what we were calling “the shit pit.”

People frequently make this claim and the evidence is comparing like a Master Electrician to a typical college grad, but you don't become a Master Electrician straight out of trade school! The path to the "good" trade jobs in many markets are often highly constrained by cronyism and nepotism

Republicans love to push this, but so do the elites who get published in the NYT and Atlantic! They love to say ‘College isn’t for everyone,’ but you’d better believe they’re all sending their kids to college! They’re trying to make it easier for their kids to get admitted.

Republicans love pushing vocational-only education instead of comprehensive-education because they want a healthy supply of low-cost servants and less competition for the professional and boss jobs they want their own kids to have.

I mentioned Jeffrey Epstein earlier, but since he seems like a sick dumbfuck who kind of lucked into connecting with a billionaire pedo circle, but the more relevant comparison might be Larry Nassar, who used an ‘official’ medical credential to abuse hundreds of minors as part of an abusive network.

chopping it up with the transphobes before the Fire-Fever game on Friday really hammered this home: they want to endlessly "debate" abstract gender concepts because they have absolutely no way to implement any kind of sports-gender policy that doesn't require a whole lot of child genital inspection

This is true in all of the major professional women’s sports leagues, though. There are no trans women in professional tennis, or soccer… this freakout began when one swimmer tied for fifth in one college race, and one college volleyball player spiked maybe a little harder than average.

The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.

(ulp) Hi, Ken! I've been a fan since 2005. I'm also a trans woman who is currently in the Jeopardy contestant pool. I appreciate you saying this and I believe you; still, mocking our problems with the NYT was uncool. And if I can quit Wordle—it took me way too long, but I did—anybody can.

I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to. But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia. ⬇️

I was going to say that in a few centuries, historians will try to make sense of the scope and evolution of The Simpsons by treating it as a vast body of legends with stock characters and a mythic credited author... Then I realized that's kind of what "Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play" does.

The Simpsons is a show that started in the 1980s based on the creators own childhood in the 1950s that continues into the 2020s; fortunately future cultural historians will be able to refer to it simply as taking place in the 'late Washington dynasty'
