I wrote this article about the great Patty Griffin’s ‘Living With Ghosts’ five years ago and every word still rings true. Her clarion call debut moonlights as a rock album. Argue with the wall.

Griffin’s dynamic debut album reinforces the virtues of sticking to your guns and demanding that your art is only sent out into the world once it meets your high standards.

OBVIOUSLY I updated my Madonna playlist this morning with I Feel So Free. Links below! Spotify: open.spotify.com/playlist/0Jb... Apple: music.apple.com/us/playlist/... Youtube: youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Nice sonic callbacks to Future Lovers in Madonna’s I Feel So Free. Even the lyrics about creating a new persona are a reference to the message in FL. Effective tethering to the vibe of COADF without being overtly referential. Chills!
My thoughts on Madonna’s Confessions II cover… and what some of the subject matter on the album may lean into.
Here's a video from November where a DJ dropped that spoken word snippet "Oh by the way it all started like this" right before Lil Louis's "French Kiss" … the same snippet we hear in the preview for Madonna's "I Feel So Free". Anyone know where this spoken word is from?
Blake Watt's long-awaited Family Stereo debut album dropping in July on the same label as Father John Misty, Midlake and Beach House feels very very right.

Sometimes you stumble upon an album you immediately want to frame.
Picked up some CDs this week as I continue building a new collection after the fire last year. I never say “rebuilding” bc tbh so many I lost were either rare or I didn’t have catalogued so I’ll never be able to fully replace them. Still incredibly angry about that… and also all the vinyl I lost.
To celebrate Sarah McLachlan’s Tiny Desk today (finally!) shout out if you BOUGHT her new album last year 💁🏻♂️
Picked up a few more CDs lately as I build a new collection after the fire: EBTG, Deep Dish, Mariah Carey, Cher, Thievery Corporation, William Orbit, The Style Council, Mandalay, Ben Watt, Sasha & John Digweed… Some of these you can’t get on streaming but physical media lasts forever 💿
Janet Jackson’s ‘Control’ is 40 today. 40!!! I was 16 when she dropped this and it immediately became one of several pop albums - along with Madonna, Duran Duran and others - that laid the bedrock to my pop music taste that’s forever in overdrive today. 🧵1/4
Happy for Durand Bernarr’s Grammy win for ‘BLOOM’. Much deserved! Overqualified” is in my weekly playlist for next week ⬇️

Slowly rebuilding my dance CD collection. Been hunting for this Deep Dish album and finally got my hands on it at Amoeba Hollywood this week. Richard Morel is all over this, Lem Springsteen (Ultra Naté’s “Free”) and BT play on it and it’s got one of my all time fave dance tracks… 1/2 ⬇️

This week Defected Records dropped a 2+ hour long 2011 mix by the late Frankie Knuckles exclusively on Apple Music. It was supposed to be a Digital / CD / Vinyl release but his health wasn’t well at the time (we lost him in 2014). LEGEND.

Julia and Suzanne Sugarbaker are a dialectic
Congrats! And TY to EIC Justin for letting me go (very) long on Madonna, Taylor Swift, EBTG, Mariah Carey’s ‘Glitter’, Tanya Tucker, Whitney Houston and more…
Albumism was born 10 years ago in January 2016 as a global platform & community dedicated to celebrating albums past, present and future. THANK YOU to all of the artists, readers & writers who have proven—as Prince once famously declared—that ALBUMS STILL MATTER and will for a mighty long time.
Nothing will make me walk out of a record store faster than if they don’t put prices on their CDs and instead want you to bring your selections to the counter so they can tell you the prices.
First spin of the Cameron Winter album and now I wanna play a bunch of Rufus Wainwright.
