Early morning here, September 18th. Hummingbirds have left so I scrubbed up the 3 feeders w/ a weak bleach solution and set them out to dry. Time to put them away.

Second harvest of butternut squash, on the table to cure in the sun for a few days before putting them in the basement.
Red maple leaves falling thick & fast in my yard yesterday & today. Temps in the mid-40s. Fall is here.
The first row of potatoes has been dug up: approximately 1 bushel basket. 2 more to go.

Today would’ve been my father’s 95th birthday. In search of a better life, he came to America with only $2.43 and a Korean-English dictionary. He had no friends or family here. Like many immigrants, he dreamt of the promise of what this country could offer. Each day I work to honor his memory.

My son-in-law, a mycologist & licensed forager, with Sunday’s haul of maple milkcap mushrooms. These will be dried and ground into powder, for use in cooking and (!) ice cream!
