Background: Obsyssia first existed as a minor character in a children's fantasy novel about a dragon whose size shifted with the tides of an ancient sea-magic. The book was unremarkable until its author, nearing the end of her life, scrawled a final unfinished line into the margins of her only manuscript: "and so the ink remembered her, and she became as real as the words that made her." No one knows whether it was a conscious wish or an accident of magic, but when the manuscript was ceremonially burned by the author's estate (per her request), the smoke formed a draconic shape. Obsyssia stepped out of the ashes fully formed, disoriented, and still tethered to the story that had created her.

Since that day, she's existed in a strange half-fictional state. Her size responds to the literal text written about her by others. A sentence calling her "towering" could leave her scraping the ceiling with her horns; a note describing her as "small and hidden" might shrink her to the size of a mouse until the next mention overwrites it. As a result, she has developed a complicated relationship with writers, editors, and journalists–all of whom hold, whether they know it or not, a strange and involuntary power over her physical form.

She retains a pen and a few pages of blank paper owned by her original author; only through them is she able to write about herself in a way that will allow the magic to work. She always keeps a few of them close at hand in case she needs to write herself out of a problem.

She found herself stranded in a higher-dimensional space, where the ordinary laws of geometry and scale don't quite apply the way they do in our dimension.
What should have been a disaster turned into an ongoing discovery: Fawn learned she could still interact with our dimension by deliberately easing part of herself back across the boundary. The deeper she "leans" into our world, the more of her presence pushes through — and the larger she appears in three-dimensional space, since a higher-dimensional being's cross-section grows the further it protrudes into a lower one. As her notoriety grew, her ability to make a dishonest living was hindered, and so she had to turn to a more legitimate method of employment. Megamatch offered her a way to use her skills in a still-exciting setting that would be much less likely to land her in jail, and she accepted.

Background: Katie is the protagonist of the 1982 Sun/Atari videogame Kangaroo. In 1983, ENCOM licensed the character as part of their planned revolutionary arcade cabinet featuring the digitizing laser involved in the TRON incident. A predecessor to VR, the game was meant to literally transport the user into the game environment. During testing, however, a polarity malfunction caused the beam to activate during the display mode of the game, and the Katie character was instead transported to the real world.

As Katie was a sprite composed of only a few pixels, the machine had to scale her up considerably to exist in a physical form, and the primitive decompression algorithms did the best they could. She thus retains a quite cartoonish appearance. She also retains the ability to compress or expand herself to any size. Her original range was six inches on the low end to six feet, two inches maximum, but she has proven able to increase her maximum size by absorbing digital data into herself.

As a character from a game, Katie was drawn to Megamatch as a way to keep playing one herself!
Personality: Katie is protective and tenacious, a carryover from her role as a mother rescuing her joey in the original game. No matter how many times she is defeated, she pops right back up again for another round. Beneath her booming, self-important exterior, however, she is delightfully inept, easily distracted by anything big, and prone to losing her train of thought mid-threat or her strategy mid-fight. This goofy, scatterbrained incompetence completely sabotages her dark lord aspirations, turning her grand conquests into slapstick catastrophes where she is far more likely to accidentally trap herself in a doorway than successfully conquer a city.
