Preparations are well underway for the Bridges #Mathart conference starting in Galway, Ireland, tomorrow. The #MathArt exhibition is being set up, and we'll have a set of wonderful talks and activities. As every year, I'll keep you posted! www.bridgesmathart.org/b2026/

AutoScarf update: the app works, the crochet pattern works, we are ready to roll once we get the website together! If you love 2-color reversible crochet and custom cellular automata algorithms, sign up to hear more and join the project at forms.gle/G8rWQVccZ4MM... #crochet #geek #math #awesome 🧶

I converted a text message into a knight's tour. To decode it, follow the knight's tour, starting in the top left corner. The knight will traverse a succession of 11x11 tours, and each of these 11x11 tours corresponds to a letter. The message is a quote from Ursula K. Le Guin.
The last stitch isn’t an exciting explosion, it is just a stitch. The project completes quietly ♥️💙 www.grannylifecrochet.com @crochet @mathart @done 🧶
The final artwork is coming together! One side is “night” and the other is “day”. grannylifecrochet.com 🌙☀️

Geordi, Is there a way to enter our authorization codes by typing them instead of speaking aloud to the computer? Several crew members have complained that they need to memorize a new code after each use because coworkers overheard them. Worf
This is cellular automata applied to a staggered grid, like in beaded peyote stitch. All of these images were created with the same algorithm, what I call “Vines on a Fence.” The only difference among them is how I started each patch. I give the recipe for Vines on a Fence on page 105 of my new book
On the way to Paris on the Eurostar and finishing the second-to-last join row of the “blue side” of the Granny Life community artwork www.grannylifecrochet.com
Finally have the squares split into two halves each with 11 stacks and can start assembly! www.grannylifecrochet.com
Hey #JMM2026 find me wandering around or at the Monday night Knitting Circle if you want to crochet a square based on a cellular automaton for a math/art/community exhibit www.grannylifecrochet.com
Did I spend all day coding instead of doing the things on my long end-of-semester to-do list? Yes. Is my app cooler now? Also yes. mathgrrl.com/simultaneous...
Can you find 11 simultaneous 11-queens solutions? I wrote a little app to search for them. There are regular solutions (each row shifted), but I'm looking for one that is more interesting. Maybe it doesn't exist? Press the button and see if you can find it :) mathgrrl.com/simultaneous...

Granny Life update: The new arrangment will be an 11x11 grid of squares arranged using 11-queens solutions and latin square conditions. I made a little app to find examples: mathgrrl.com/simultaneous... ⚡Also: Still time to claim squares to crochet for this project at www.grannylifecrochet.com !
Getting so many squares for the Granny Life project that the piece is now going to be two-sided. Had to make up a new whip stitch to get the attachment right. @crochet 🧶 Still time to claim squares and be part of the art at www.grannylifecrochet.com !
@mathgrrl.com I’m enjoying making squares for the Granny Life Project. Here’s a diagram that I made of what the basic stitch layout looks like if you want to make your own design, or if you want to color in what you’ve crocheted as you go along for your Granny Life square.
Still time to join the Granny Life community math/art project at www.grannylifecrochet.com ! My job is assembly, so today I am learning about braided fishing wire and how to tie fishing nets. Hoping to incorporate a strong net grid into the project. It's going to weigh about 15-20 pounds!

My friend showed me this daily web game: Which Year? It shows five photos, and you have to guess the year for each one. You can get four free digits with no penalty, but each digit can be used only once (in other words, you can get the thousands, hundreds, tens, or ones each only once). whichyr.com

Guess the year real-world photos were taken. Test your history knowledge with a daily challenge featuring a new set of photos each day.

At the TMiP conference in August, we announced the winner of this year's MEGA Grant - Christian Lawson-Perfect will be creating beautiful aperiodic tilings in the sand, as part of the #BeachSpectres project. Christian's write-up is here: aperiodical.com/2025... More info at http://tmip.uk/mega-...
Let’s go to the beach and make an aperiodic tiling!
Somehow, I’ve been awarded the MEGA grant, from Matt Parker and Talking Maths in Public, for a ridiculous public maths project. I’d better get on that, then! My plan is to go to the bea…
