Goddess of Spring and Apple Blossom Maid | pomologist, poetess, princess, Otherworldly cider hall waitress, and your friendly apple maiden 🍎 [she/her/hers] | warded by my beloved Dana 💍💖

My car needs a new transmission now and I just can't deal anymore. Everything is too expensive, I can't afford anything, and now this. I'm starting to think that the cost of living in this country is catching up to me so fast that I could very well end up homeless in a year.

I had to call up the internet provider because my internet wasn't working and the customer service guy just stopped in the middle of the call and said, "You know, you're really nice. I really appreciate you being so nice and polite." What kind of monsters have hurt these poor people?

Rapunzel is exasperated over why people can't just be nice.

Grrr, I greatly dislike when it's this kind of word in this kind of game. Sorry for the MacWordle spoiler, but I reckon none of my followers are playing this game. (It's Wordle, but in Scots. And no, it's not affiliated with the New York Times, don't worry.)

Today's MacWordle, the Scots version of the Wordle game. The answer was SAUCH, which means a willow tree in Scots, but there are a dozen words in Scots that are spelt -AUCH so it was kind of unfair.

I just can't write like I used to. I manage 3000 words a day, maybe, but there was a time I was doing 8000 words regularly. Just have to have great ideas that flow out of your fingertips, I guess.

It's been INCREDIBLY wet out here in New England these past couple of months, even though there were a few dry spells in between. It's wreaking havoc on us.

Codling moth! And brown rot! I'm seeing an awful lot of it this year. I reckon my #allotment #apples might end up with damage rates of 80%-90% 😡 orchardnotes.com/2026/08/03/e... How about you? Are you seeing similar problems, or have your trees escaped the ravages of this particular p&d combo?

A Norfolk Beefing apple sitting on top of a fence post. Dark blemishes in its red skin are signs of codling moth damage.

I was awakened this morning by one of the loudest cracks of thunder I've ever heard, followed by sudden torrential rains and a notification on my phone saying there was a flash flood warning. So much for my morning walk!

There's a Scottish TikToker who just got a whole bunch of bigots upset because she pointed out that people of any "race" or ethnic background can be (or become) Scottish. Racist Englishmen are out there trying to police other countries' national and ethnic identities, amazing.

We need to go back to Middle Welsh spellings so I can be Mathonỽy again. Love to have a Middle Welsh V in my name instead of a Modern Welsh W. Maybe I should sign my name that way.

Jehovah's Witness: Could we talk to you about morality in the world? Me: Ok, but before you start, I'm a queer pagan goddess and I think that's rad and very moral. I have some thoughts about the lack of morality in the world though, if you want to talk about it. JW: ...Well, here's a pamphlet. Bye!

Farming and homemaking and motherhood aren't glamourous. That's the lie that cottagecore and tradwifery try to sell you. We wear welly boots and overalls and hoodies and work gloves and ugly hats that protect from sun and rain. We don't put on makeup to change diapers or milk cows. It's all fake.

I first critiqued "cottagecore" like 10 years ago and I hate to be the one who said I told you so, but I do feel (sadly) vindicated that I called it perfectly. Just a foothold into launching young women into the tradwife nonsense.

I was a good lady-in-waiting today. I did the dishes, took out the rubbish, washed and dried and folded laundry, and I cleaned the kitchen. Now someone wait on me. I want to be served my tea.

[family groupchat] Dana's Dad: We have to cook for twelve people tonight. Dana's Mum: See? I told you we should have chained Mathonwy to the stove to keep her from leaving. Dana: For the last time, you can't keep her as a scullery maid. Me: *shrug* I wouldn't mind, really. Dana's Mum: Good lass!
