Today will be my last trip to Audubon's Silver Bluff Sanctuary before I head back to Alexandria. If you're out there this evening you might see me. But probably not. Video by Dinah Davison

I hate to say it, but heron nestlings are little monsters. They beg so aggressively that the parents always seem relieved to leave after regurgitating a meal. In one case I've even seen fledglings give chase. Snowy egrets, Port Royal Cypress Wetlands, South Carolina #birds #wildlifephotography
The Port Royal Cypress Wetlands is nuts. This seven-acre park in Port Royal, SC has hundreds of nesting wood storks, great and snowy egrets, little blue and tricolored herons, white ibis, and more, often too close for a 600 mm lens. Little blue heron feeding nestlings #birds #wildlifephotography
The Kathwood Ponds at Audubon's Silver Bluff Sanctuary were constructed to give wood storks a place to forage in late summer and early fall. Late in July the sanctuary lowers the water levels to give them good hunting, and there will be dozens. This was an early visitor. #birds #wildlifephotography
We've been notified that we'll be moving into the new building on Aug 10. Until then I'll be teleworking from Jackson, SC, so there will be lots of photos from Silver Bluff and Phinizy. After the Evolution meeting in Cleveland, I had just a few hours free to explore the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve on the shore of Lake Erie. This American goldfinch looks like I used some kind of filter, but it's just out of focus leaves. #birds #wildlifephotography
More Cooper. Because who doesn't need more Cooper. When he's not busy making barrels, buckets, tubs, troughs, and other products made of wooden staves, he enjoys agility training and cheese. But mostly cheese. #dogs
Six weeks after my first visit, I returned to McKee-Beshers Wildlife Managment Area, Maryland to see fledgling least bitterns. By this time, the cattails were so high it was difficult to find a gap to see through, but I did see some fuzzy-headed goofballs. #birds #wildlifephotography
