That's our next week here in Samobor, Croatia, where Wikipedia tells me 39º is the highest recorded temp since 1981. For filthy Americans, 40º C = 104º F. Fuck this shit. My tomato plants aren't so stoked on this.

Weather report showing high temps for the next week ranging from 36ºC up to 40º, and low temps from a low of 18º up to 21º overnight, which full sunlight and no clouds.

Finally watched Backrooms with my son. Enjoyed it well enough, but ultimately felt a bit unsatisfied. It felt more like the start of a streaming show. Clearly set up for a sequel with not much explained. And the MC's arc felt unearned as it largely happened off camera. Continues:

Finally saw Odyssey with my son. Enjoyed it after the boring early bit. Yes: Samantha Morton as Circe, Matt Damon as Odysseus, Robert Pattinson as slime incarnate, Elliot Page as Sinon, the cyclops, the pig scene, the Laestrygonians. No: Tom Holland, who seemed out of his depth. Fun movie.

"Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. -Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared " Anne Frank

Something I did in 2019 while messing around with Modo, City Gen, zBrush, and xFrog, an SF city with energy ribbons circling the city to carry traffic. Scale perhaps a bit wonky with those birds. This is a WIP render. Never finished this, but had fun anyway.

Detailed rough render of a futuristic city with organic shaped buildings, trees, a flock of birds, and floating energy ribbons circling the city with drones and other traffic attached to the ribbons.

Here's what I wrote in 2019:

Something I was working on a few months ago but never finished.
I had this idea for a city that has these sort of energy ribbons that go around the city like highways. Drones for shipping and taxis and everything else attach themselves to that ribbon and are taken around the city. They can attach and detach. Those drones require very little energy because those energy ribbons that're the highways power the flight. They just latch onto it and get carried around in the current. You can see them circling the city in magenta and blue-green.
Anyway, this is sort of a snapshot of a work in progress that I never finished. Still loads to do but not sure I will ever finish it. I'll probably render out a camera fly through though to see what the city looks like with a camera flying through it.
Learned a bunch about Modo and City Gen and Zbrush while doing this. And that was the point. Maybe I'll finish it one day, but maybe not. Wanna get onto some other stuff.

Crazy. Thought I'd maybe take my son to see Odyssey this weekend, but the local IMAX is sold out almost solid all the way up to nearly the very first row every day for the next week, except odd showing times. Had to book the 27th, 9 days out. Never seen that happen here in Croatia. Continues...

Next week's big beer week for me. During the week, I'm going to a craft brewery to pick up ingredients to brew a test batch for a collaboration beer we'll brew on their system. Then, Friday, I'm off to Pivovara Medvedgrad, the biggest craft brewery in Croatia, to brew our collab lager, 6000 liters.

Had a minor success with Duotrope this week. A magazine listed themselves as "Human-created work only; no AI use allowed" but then used AI generated art for each story. This is a dishonest representation of what they're doing. Continues in comments.

Underestimate freelancers at your own peril. Originally, ‘freelance’ referred to a medieval mercenary who would fight for whichever nation or person paid them the most. Those tax forms must’ve been nuts to fill out.
