August 27, 2022. Las Cienegas National Conservation Area & Patagonia. Aside from Mt. Lemmon, I haven’t been out of Tucson since February, partly because of knee pain while driving, partly because gas costs for a non-hybrid. OTOH, the Honda can handle places the Prius couldn’t go - when I’m ready.

Three years ago today, in Patagonia and Sonoita, AZ, there was a rainbow.
What a day! On Friday, my Honda had a low tire pressure warning, and late Saturday afternoon I learned the car had FOUR nails in one tire! Monday morning the dealership said I had to buy two tires, plus rear brake pads. Husband John was furious! 1/2
I saw my surgeon today for my 3-month follow-up, including x-rays. Everything looks great and is proceeding as it should. Dr. G. agreed with me that there is no need to consider replacing the other knee for years to come, if ever.
This afternoon, husband John put the recycling bin out by our mailbox for tomorrow’s collection. Two hours later, the storm hit. Soon after that, the wind blew over the bin! 1/3
After a long day, I made a quick drive kout to Broadway Trailhead for Tuesday’s sunset. The view to the west was mediocre, but then a nice swirl of pink-orange cloud appeared over the Catalina Mountains to the north. I’ll take it! #TucsonSunsets
Today’s storm erupted over Costco as we shopped. When we came out, the rain and lightning were over, but the left side of a double rainbow awaited us. The rainbow followed us home, and gave way to a yellow sunset.
Saturday sunset near the Broadway Trailhead. #saguaros #TucsonSunsets
I spent part of Saturday helping a friend with a cleaning project. By the time I left her place, it was a bit late for the gym’s weekend hours, so I drove out to the Broadway Trailhead of Saguaro National Park East, arriving 17 minutes before sunset. Definitely worth missing the gym today for this!
Late afternoon clouds, Thursday, at Wilmot and Golf Links.
Monday’s sunset was a patch of color surrounded by the remnants of a big gray thunderstorm. #TucsonSunset #monsoon
On Saturday I drove up Bear Wallow Road for the first time in at least three years, more likely five. The pavement ends about 50 feet from Mt. Lemmon Highway, and my 2018 Prius Prime had proved unable to handle dirt roads without significant damage.
On Saturday I drove my Honda CR-V up Mt. Lemmon Highway for the second time ever. I’m pretty sure I only got as far as Windy Point the first time. This time, Windy Point was my first stop.
I’ve seen some dramatic lightning over the past few days - but my iPhone hasn’t, even using my iLightningCam app. 😠😕
Mica View Trail on the edge of Thursday evening’s storm. The first video was about 1/2 hour earlier and features a brief burst of distant lightning.
Apple Butt and Kito. Kito has been a bit unsteady on his feet this week and has fallen several times, and I’ve helped him up twice. But he’s not as bad as he was several weeks ago. On balance I’d say he’s hanging in there.
I interrupted my workout this evening to step outside for a moment and capture this East-facing view of post-sunset color, as seen from the LA Fitness parking lot. I love that in Tucson, you don’t always have to look to the west to see an interesting sunset. Sort of.

I was officially discharged on Thursday from physical therapy for my knee after one last follow-up I’d requested. I’ve been gradually increasing and diversifying my exercise and it’s going well. 1/2
