The thing is, if you crunch the numbers, dollars spent doesn’t actually = wins. The only difference is in VERY close races where it can SOMETIMES matter. So the neverending cry of “We lose if we don’t get more money!” is just an excuse to let big donors outspend you and have more say.

This! Exactly! I truly don’t understand why everyone thinks they’re psychic during election seasons. If “unelectable” was real, we wouldn’t be living through this insanity. Also related - why would you vote based on your idea about what others want instead of who you actually like? Thats so weird!
Deva Woodly@devawo.bsky.social · 21h agoI’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.
“A gentler approach with employers” is a helluva way to say “consigned more workers to illness and death so their buddies wouldn’t keep crying about having to keep them alive and harshing the vibe at the golf course”

I don’t think I’m ever going to get over being told repeatedly that prices are fine when I’m literally tracking my groceries week over week and watching my cart shrink.

Can someone explain to me, in very simple terms, how spending more money on a campaign helps you win? This is a real question.
The very people who accuse others of "staying silent" are SILENT THEMSELVES ON 1000 issues a day which is NORMAL because you are ONE PERSON & simply cannot have takes on every single thing.
I don’t think I’m ever going to get over watching 90% of people turn into mindless cheerleaders for their political team while losing their ability to see things individually as either positive or negative at the same time (related obvs). It’s so bleak. We don’t actually have to be a hive mind.
Someone really should do some kind of study on how the neocon “moderate” pretends to accept policies that are progressive while secretly waiting for any opportunity, no matter how bad faith it is, to jump out of a bush and yell “aha” at everyone in the guise of fake concern. It seems pathological.

It really really really bugs me how many people simply do not understand what it means when the government tries to convict you even IF THEY FAIL TO DO IT. Do you know how many thousands of dollars in legal fees it costs? You will most likely lose your job. You might lose your home.
Okay, you know what we’re NOT doing? We’re not pretending that somehow the DSA is against the Constitution because they want to do legal reforms and we’re ESPECIALLY not doing that when the party in power is currently using it as toilet paper. Also see the Patriot Act.

One of the most inexplicable things about this moment is the apparently very high number of people in this country who seem to believe that regulations were passed purely out of spite and control impulse instead of because they were needed. Bizarre at the highest order.

Vis. the link I just posted. I read the whole thing and it’s even worse than it seems. No real evidence, no useful citations, I would reject this immediately as a reviewer. It’s a grievance doc using inference and suggestions about proximity to lump all if its critics into the same category

No one should have to choose between earning a paycheck and risking heat stroke. If temperatures are dangerous enough for public warnings, they're dangerous enough to demand real protections for workers in factories, warehouses, and on delivery routes.
Literally nothing can justify this. I don’t care if he was a mass murderer (of course he wasn’t) it STILL wouldn’t be justified to do it this way. We have rules and rights for a goddamn reason.
