attention Fastmail executive team: please continue to be normal. If you have any thoughts about anything other than emails, please keep them to yourselves. Please do not fund any external projects that have anything to do with anything other than emails. Thank you.
Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.
🦀 first basic prototype for the diff viewer on crates.io seems to work as planned 😍 and the regular code viewer is now publicly released :) #rustlang
🦀 I did another thing... what do you think? 😄 Code viewer right inside of crates.io that shows the uploaded files ✨ It's still a prototype, but once I've cleaned it up I'll open a PR. Diff viewer next? 🙀 #rustlang

I wrote up some things about my experience playing with jj mostly a braindump, probably wrong in places, but perhaps useful ellie.wtf/notes/jj-get...

@fastmail.com I am trying to get a Sieve script to place a copy of incoming emails for a specific email into a folder, but... nothing happens? ``` require ["fileinto", "copy"]; if address :is ["To"] ["foo@x.com", "foo@y.com"] { fileinto :copy "INBOX/Foos"; } ```
@fastmail.com is there (or will there be) an API to configure mail rules and folders?
@justingarrison.com What is the best place to ask Talos questions? The link to join the Slack is dead, I think...?
@ellie.wtf there is a visible ~1sec delay from when the atuin-in-tmux window opens to when it starts rendering results. Any debugging flags I can set to triage this? Any profiling? 💜
New year, new vacancies: Mainmatter is looking (again!) for an experienced Rust developer to join our Rust migration projects. C, C++, Delphi. Different starting points, same target: Rust! If you're interested, send an email to the address in the screenshot.
@bell.bz I vaguely remember you ditching Notion... if so, do you happen to have a writeup of what tools you use now, if any?
@samjs.io Has anyone integrated `rudy` into nvim DAP yet? It would be sooo nice to get much better variable printing 😄
Is there something in #CSS anchor positioning with fallbacks that allows this pop up to not flow out to the left? Cc @bell.bz @kevinpowell.co
@ishadeed.com any chance your layout course can be pre-purchased before Christmas? My L&D budget expires then 😂
Question for the HTML/CSS folks: is there a browser native way to do a combobox? I want to let the user type a few characters from a recipe title and show partial matches... At the moment I use FloatingUI to achieve this. popoverTarget only works for buttons :( @bell.bz @una.im @sarasoueidan.com 🙏

What do people do for a shared digital calendar with a partner/spouse? I want both of us to be able to see and add to it.

@siderolabs.com @justingarrison.com @rawkode.dev Kubernetes question: What would make pods believe they restarted... 55yrs ago? Time seems to be not getting updated right and probably resetting some close 1970 i.e. beginning of unix epoch? But not uniformly? Not sure what I'd check...? cc @clux.dev
@matthewsanabria.dev 👋 just heard you on the @oxide.computer podcast about writing K8S controllers etc for the Oxide rack in golang. Have you seen github.com/kube-rs/kube ? We use it at work to write controllers in Rust 😊

@steveklabnik.com just contributed to a colleagues PR using jj. So I’m confident I can work on my own and with others! “jj git push” was a bit scary - will I force override their changes?” but it worked like a charm!
@steveklabnik.com I just managed to abandon the change that my upstream was pointing at via bookmark (ignore-immutable 🙈), figure out what was wrong AND recover it all with the op-log. This is brilliant! The mistake was abandoning the wrong commit after a merge 😅
@steveklabnik.com any chance we’ll get “5.4 Updating trunk from upstream” for #jj-vcs any time soon? I find that part hella confusing 🤣
I am so concerned about the impact of corporations kowtowing to the American administration by rescinding DEI efforts that I have created a Parliamentary petition to ask the government to only make contracts with organisations where DEI is still active. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...
Petition: Government to only issue contracts to organisations that have a DEI policy
Update the government Public Procurement Policy to only allow contracts with organisations that publish a diversity and inclusion policy and how they measure themselves against it.
