Western Europe had its hottest June on record.🔥 Intense heatwaves broke temperature records, with peaks up to 9°C above average in France and Germany, according to Copernicus data. Only Cyprus and Malta had normal temperatures. Climate change is here and we are feeling its effects

Map of Europe showing average surface air temperature anomalies for 18–30 June 2026 compared with the 1991–2020 average. Large areas of Western and Central Europe, particularly France, Germany, Benelux, northern Italy and surrounding regions, are shaded dark red, indicating temperatures up to 9°C above average. Lighter orange and yellow shades show smaller positive anomalies across much of the rest of Europe. A colour scale at the bottom ranges from -9°C (dark blue) to +9°C (dark red). The map includes Copernicus Climate Change Service and European Union logos.
