I'm a person that does stuff sometimes.

Classic XBOX games are now rolling out for Win11 PCs: news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/0... I've taken a look inside one. This works by running the "Fusion" XBOX emulator used for 360 inside the "XEO3" 360 emulator used for One/Series. Same as backwards compatibility on those consoles.

Today, we’re introducing XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC, making it easier to play classic XBOX games from the past across PC and handhelds, including the ROG XBOX Ally and XBOX Ally X.

Man, I didn't mean to get people fear mongering about this... This is completely normal, inoffensive, they've been doing it for decades, and you agreed to it when you signed up for your Nintendo account. You can even disable it here, if you'd like: accounts.nintendo.com/privacy

Here's something from the emulator code: it sends telemetry about your game progress to Nintendo. There's quite a lot, including some things that aren't pictured, like which Pokemon you have and what level they're each at.

OK, here's my "the (English) Pokemon Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch system" cursory analysis. First of all, I dumped the game to immediately discover the most sad romfs ever:

The Virtual Boy Classics app uses Lua scripts for everything, so it'd be trivial to mod it to work in docked mode and render a fullscreen 2D image, but I think people who want that are missing the fact that these games were designed for 3D and don't play very well without it.

Here are the other supported codes: BEE = SW2 HAC = SW HAD = SW (revision) HDH = SW Lite HEG = SW OLED The Switches have a convention of starting with H. OSM doesn't fit this convention for either SW or SW2. The image is probably placeholder. This seems like something different.

I think I've discovered something interesting, but I have no idea what it implies: On Nintendo's Account Portal, there's an unused model code under the name "OSM". (The Switch 2's model code is BEE.) The portal has images for each Switch model, and requesting OSM returns an image of a Switch 2.

A picture of the OSM model from Nintendo's site, which is identical to the Switch 2

I played through the first area of Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 2 and it's great but... there's no option to invert the Y axis for mouse controls. You can for literally everything else, but not mouse. :| I was looking forward to playing that way, but not without that option.

I was planning to build a PC this December. But the laptop I'd been using as my main machine died earlier this year, which prompted me to build it three months earlier. This was a blessing in disguise. The 64 GB RAM kit I bought in September for ~$250 is now ~$800.

I don't know where this started but I've heard a lot of people parrot some false claim that the Switch versions of Super Mario Galaxy are based on the Shield version. They are totally unrelated versions with nearly zero similarities, created independently by two different teams.

SMG1+2 technical info: The new Switch port of Super Mario Galaxy is based on the 3D All Stars version (although naturally, there are a significant number of changes). Like SMG1, SMG2 uses Hagi for graphics/audio emulation, and the code itself was compiled natively for Switch.

Mario Galaxy 1+2's HUD is... smaller. In like, an offputting sort of way that's hard to describe. Like, the proportions are wrong, or something. Skyward Sword HD was the same way. And given it shares the exact same scope as SMG1+2, I'm inclined to believe Tantalus did this.

After 100%ing DK Bananza I've given it some time to simmer, thinking I might become jaded with the game like I did with Mario Odyssey... but, no. DK shows that EPD Tokyo has still got it. Odyssey was just a fluke. I hope Tears of the Kingdom was a fluke, too.

why do streamers put chat behind their facecam/vtuber avatar/whatever so the most recent messages, the relevant ones you want to read at that moment, are obscured, please stop this practise

Patapon 1+2 (underneath the Unity wrapper) seems to just be a PSP emulator. And it does the typical emulated re-release thing of replacing textures and whatnot at runtime. All expected, since that's what the PS4 versions were.
