Oh, I guess it's finally public. So yeah, Screaming Mad George passed away at the beginning of the year. He was immensely talented and a huge part of why I got into horror FX at all. He was one of the giants, and he will be missed.

Have to watch it late because I had stuff to do, but I guess I'll watch Fall now. Trailer gave me the ol' butt puckers years ago. I'm really REALLY not good with heights, so I've been avoiding it. Ugh. Here we go.
Old lady doing a Scotch demo at TWAM, lamenting that nobody in Miami drinks whisky, so nobody is giving her feedback. Not a problem, I love Scotch. This was not good Scotch. Too young, too expensive. Might be okay for someone wanting to try their first single malt.
This is a perfect example of how to immediately convince me to watch a movie. The actual review cemented it, but just telling me that a filmmaker nailed my favorite style of filmmaking puts it to the top of my list with zero hesitation.
"A shining example of Neorealism, a school of movie storytelling that originated in post-World War II Italy, filmed scenes in actual places rather than on sets, and cast trained actors alongside nonprofessionals who usually played versions of themselves." www.rogerebert.com/reviews/unio...
I am really not super happy that everything happening with the entire federal government from top (especially the top!) to bottom could be the plot of a Blake Edwards film.
Dear Warner, It was bad enough that you switched HBO's cable subscribers to the ad supported tier of Hbo Max, but if you show me another fucking Byron Donalds ad again, especially during John Oliver, I'm completely done.
Partially educated guess: Trump has obstructive sleep apnea and refuses to use a CPAP. This is why he tweets at all hours and has daytime somnolence. He used to manage this with amphetamines, but he's got so many cardiac issues that he's been forced to stop using them.
😳 Trump sleeps his way through psychotic vaccine misinformation event 😳 When Trump wasn't blabbering, he was napping on camera, his eyes closed and face drooping. At a couple moments it even looked like he was about to fall out of his chair. Here's a supercut:
Found my old VHS copy of Kiki's Delivery Service that I had bought back in 1998. Y'know, I really thought Sydney Forest was destined for big things after hearing her songs for the soundtrack. They're no longer in the modern releases. The entertainment industry is a real bastard.
Me: The bulk of our audience at the venues we play at were teens in the 90s. We should play songs that cater to nostalgia, while also not being stuff every other band plays. Bandmates: We should play Born to Be Wild, Smoke on the Water, and nine Beatles songs.
So I found out that this is actually a port of a VR remake of The 7th Guest that came out a few years ago. I do like VR gaming, but it's expensive and my house has very limited space and isn't conducive to VR gaming. I have a Quest 1 that I haven't touched in years.
So I JUST found out that this is already out, and I've bought it. I LOVE this remake! It's a whole new way of experiencing The 7th Guest that modernizes it without disrespecting the original. It's not often remakes by unrelated studios show so much love for the game they're redoing.

Brand new puzzles? Sweet! Everyone must buy this, and it must make tons of money so we can get a remake of 11th Hour, too, and then maybe even get the third one, The Collector, made. I miss Trilobyte games.
Oh. Forgot to mention that I saw Brand New Day today. I liked the actual Spider-Man stuff, but the rest of the movie just felt like a lead in to incorporate the X-Men into the MCU, and just completely tanked the plot. There was the potential for a great movie buried in there.
Man, I really wish I was a faster typist. My master list of script ideas is probably bigger than I could finish in my lifetime. Biggest problem is balancing the stuff that's the most fun to write vs the stuff that's actually marketable.
Fucking hell, I hate that nobody hires their own delivery drivers anymore and outsources their shit to Doordash. It just adds another level of bureaucracy when your kid wants Pizza Hut after their dance recital, and the delivery driver tries to give us this:
DIRTY MOTHERFUCKERS! JUST FUCKING STOP MAKING SHOWS IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO SEE THEM THROUGH! Christ, I hate every goddamn streaming service.
Marvel's Wonder Man TV series has been canceled and will not return for its planned second season. https://bit.ly/4fE07Nv
Lemme preface this by saying that I've been with Xbox since the original launched in 2001 (I actually won it at a retail event). I've never played through Halo. Tried it, but never got far. Anyone else think it's really just boring as hell?
I kinda wanna see The Odyssey in that 4DX format, but I'm not sure I wanna drive all the way out to Kendall to see it.
For aspiring screenwriters, be really careful about submitting your scripts for paid critiques unless you have a specific expectation for what you want out of it. They're mostly a grift. Anonymous critiques with a scoring scale are completely useless and are often counterproductive.
Holy shit, it's basically EXACTLY like the movie. INCLUDING the same anomalies. Having just watched the film, i literally just breezed through the game and had to go back to 0 just a single time. There's a few differences. The walking man is caucasian, and there's no lockers or photobooth.
By the way, The Exit 8, the game the movie is based on, is currently less than $3 on Steam right now. I'm about to boot it up. I'm a little worried that I should have played it before watching the movie, but it doesn't seem like many of the #frightclub posters played it either.
Liminal double feature tonight. Saw Backrooms and Exit 8. Movies based on a web series I'd somehow never heard of, and a video game I'd also never heard of. I kinda hesitate to really call either of them horror. They're unsettling, but they're not really scary. But I did like both films!
Watched the new Faces of Death on Shudder. Kind of a decent premise, but the script and general execution leave something to be desired. It's not bad, though it is a little hokey and amateurish. Worth a watch if you've seen everything else, but it's not a must-see.
I can't wait until my kid is old enough to order a regular portion of food from restaurants. I look forward to being able to order something other than sweet and sour chicken with sauce on the side and shrimp fried rice again.
I'm a natural mimic too, but I've just kinda leaned into it. My normal speaking accent is pretty non-regional, but I'm from the South and I live in Miami, and my wife thinks it's hilarious how my accent bounces around when my Texabama mom comes down to visit.
People are making fun of AOC for having a slight southern accent while speaking in Memphis but they clearly don’t know the pain of habitually and unconsciously imitating the speaking style of the people around you
Can always tell when my local Wendy's has hired a new crew. The dead giveaway is when I lift the bun on my burger and it looks like it spent time on the set of a bukkake film. No mayo apparently means that I actually want more mayo than burger.
Is it okay to mess your reader by bombarding them with a huge expository dump, then doing a rug pull by revealing that the entire thing they just read was almost entirely bullshit? Would it matter how it was written? Say it was in an Azimov novel. 20 pages of irrelevance. What about Douglas Adams?
I think it's weird that these Marvel team-up movies are saddled with the Avengers title. The comics went with Marvel Super Heroes for the big team-ups, so why not the MCU?
I think it's weird that these Marvel team-up movies are saddled with the Avengers title. Why not do what Traveller's Tales did with the Lego games and just use Marvel Super Heroes or something similar?
Made split pea soup and French bread tonight. Both came out delicious. Like dangerously "I'm about to eat an entire loaf of bread" delicious. Of course, my kid was freaking out about the soup because it was green. I reminded her about Sam I Am, and she ate the whole bowl.
