Senator Megan Hunt

Independent State Senator in Omaha's District 8, shopgirl, mother, big Taurus energy. meganhunt.net.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, and this news out of SCOTUS makes it impossible not to reflect on how far we’ve been pushed backward. In 2019, I introduced a bill to ban conversion therapy in NE, the same year CO passed theirs. We actually came REALLY close. Closer than people might remember.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court ruled against a law banning “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ+ kids in Colorado, one of about two dozen states that banned the discredited practice.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! Our trans brothers and sisters deserve to be celebrated every single day, and we must keep fighting for them until that becomes the norm. In the meantime, I can’t say it any better than Nebraska’s very own @meganhunt.bsky.social:

Trans people exist, have always existed, and will loved and valued, no matter what their government tells them. (Also, I’m a part of the government, and I’m here to tell you I love you + I won’t stop fighting for you no matter what!)

Many of my colleagues spoke today in favor of a bill to fight sex trafficking as their blind, proud, fervent support of that pedo creep Donald Trump undermines the credibility their every word. Their president is the sex trafficker in chief.

LB455, introduced by Senator Bob Hallstrom, would make it harder for workers to learn about their legal rights when they are injured on the job. How does this make workers safer? I will never support a bill that puts corporations over the workers they owe all their success to.

Guns in the Capitol! Always a hot topic. Today we debated a bill that would approve sweeping new security powers without clear answers about cost, legality, or how they’ll actually work. When access to government is at stake, we should always err on the side of openness.

When lawmakers no longer to see themselves as custodians of a tradition that is much larger and more important than the position they temporarily hold, you get what we have today. Everybody frustrated with government, and nobody feeling well-represented.

State Sen. Megan Hunt represents District 8 in Omaha. She was elected in 2018 and began serving in January 2019. She was reelected in 2022. Her term runs through January

As we debate increased discipline for struggling students and cuts to disability support, it matters to note that the Governor is driving these policies while proudly and publicly using slurs for disabled people.

What’s remarkable is that we seem to shell out tax dollars for everything under the sun—ICE detention facilities, subsidies for multimillion dollar corporations, scholarships for Catholic schools—until it’s time to actually help a regular person who is suffering.

ICE, America's Gestapo, is not a law enforcement agency that sometimes goes too far. Its entire purpose is violence and terror. Every agent who puts on that uniform does so because they want to participate in a system designed to get the outcome we saw today in Minneapolis.

It’s my last first day, beginning my 8th year in the Nebraska Legislature! Thank you to the people of Nebraska for trusting me with the privilege of representing you in the Unicam. With the help and support of my team, I look forward to making you proud in our final session.

“The reason we have the problems we have in this country, whether we’re talking about Congress or we’re talking about city council,” said Megan Hunt, the trailblazing member of the Nebraska State Legislature, “is because good people don’t run.”

Defending conversion therapy is like defending the prescription of heroin for a cough. That was done at one time, but we know better now. Govt regulates the medical industry to keep ppl safe. This is no different than any other modern regulations to protect consumers & patients.

Nobody needs the abusive and debunked “treatment” known as conversion therapy—and LGBTQ+ youth need to know they are loved and accepted as they are. As long as I’m in the legislature I’ll be working to ban it in Nebraska.

No reputable medical or psychological association supports conversion therapy. Being LGBTQ+ is not an illness, and we don’t need to be cured. We have been working to ban conversion therapy in Nebraska since 2019. With my LB 367, we could be next to ban this inhumane practice.

The Supreme Court is poised to overturn 32 state bans on conversion therapy and explicitly legalize the abusive and torturous process. They don't care how many LGBTQ people this traumatizes and kills. www.cnn.com/2025/10/06/p...

Media training has gone too far for some of these candidates for office—we can tell when candidates are speaking to donors and not to voters. No more memorized talking points that actually say nothing! We want proof that our leaders can recognize a genocide when they see one.
