like the US has been trying to destroy the islamic republic since its inception, we sold their neighbor chemical weapons to use on them and have repeatedly backed israeli aggression against their allies. why would iran be anything but hostile to the united states?
obviously this is islamophobia, but it's also the liberal framing of american empire as always being reactive. none of our actions ever have consequences and no one ever has valid historical reasons to be hostile towards america

I don’t think anyone has ever actually answered a question I’ve posed on here. Twitter was awful, but at least people would argue their case or call you a cunt, which was still technically interaction. Here, everyone is so block-happy.
I must be misunderstanding. This is EXACTLY what Ryan does in his article? He criticizes AIPAC’s massive spending and support for a candidate committed to continuing military aid to Israel. He also clearly distinguishes AIPAC from American Jews.
AIPAC’s stated mission is advancing the US–Israel relationship, not representing all Jewish Americans, and Jewish Americans have publicly organized against it.
I previously made the point that “American Jews” and AIPAC are not synonymous, but I do have to ask: if AIPAC were American Jews, would that somehow make using political influence to arm and protect a genocide acceptable?

Pardon me, but Robert Kagan makes me want to put my fist through a wall. A historian should know better and the fact that he almost certainly does is what makes it so infuriating.
And, I’m sorry, but do you know what really fucking enrages me? Western academics invoke Hitler as the ultimate measure of every evil in the world, as though nothing the US has done could ever occupy the same moral universe. I am so sick of it. Why call people "Nazi?" Why not call them American?
I just... think a lot about how the US turned victory over Nazi Germany into a permanent claim to moral authority, then led a Western order that was fine gassing Iranians. I think a lot about that.
Also, this passage leapt out at me. Kagan invokes Saddam’s invasion of Iran as proof that he was a singular menace, while carefully omitting that Washington went on to back him despite knowing he was using chemical weapons against Iranians almost daily.
