Birders of Bluesky: A broad-winged hawk moved into my yard and is VERY chatty. We spotted her last week and thought she was a red-shoulder, but I heard her call just now. Unmistakeably broad-winged!

This is 100% something my husband would do
I secretly assigned Starfleet ranks to myself and selected coworkers. My job is very specialized so I am a Commander. Bosses are Captain and above, the rest are Lieutenants and Ensigns. Obviously I am careful not to wear red at work to avoid being downsized. Seems to be working.
Y'all. At my husband's behest, I'm finally watching Gargoyles. It's so good!
This will get played many times in my classes this fall, as my college students prepare to vote, most likely for the first time.
Still the best speech in the LOTR trilogy. And feels extremely relevant to the times we live in. A lot of days do feel this hopeless.
My kids are watching Gravity Falls today. As a bell rang on the show, I realized that it's like Widow's Bay for the younger set.
It's wild to me that we in Northern New England have the highest storm risk in the country today! The sky here in my corner of Vermont is currently an ominous shade of orange from wildfire smoke pushed in ahead of the storms.
Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large to very large hail, and tornadoes (some strong) are expected today across parts of northern New York and New England. Thunderstorms with scattered severe winds and isolated hail will also be possible across portions of Montana.
Any moth experts want to tell me who is on my front door right now? It's about 4-5 inches across.
Chaperoning my kids' field trips is now one of my favorite things for precisely this reason. This year alone, I was able to go: -Apple-picking to learn about pollinators -Sailing on Lake Champlain -To the State House, watch the legislature at work, and MEET THE GOVERNOR
Getting to go on a fun educational trip should be a regular thing at companies for mental health reasons
This little gem popped back into my head this evening for No Reason At All. (I deeply enjoyed playing this as a young clarinetist)

Move over, Tower of London! We have ravens at our Little League ballpark! I heard them calling tonight!
We watched the fireworks at Smuggler's Notch. Some kids gave my kids glow bracelets. It was a clear and cool evening in the Green Mountains. It was the perfect way to celebrate. Happy 250th, America!

The Tartan Army in Florida got to my parents' Porch Manatee!
Let me tell you, it's surreal watching Widow's Bay with an actual descendant of Richard Warren.... (My husband is descended from all of the big Mayflower names, including Mr. Warren)
Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it. People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19
RIP Mark Rothko. You would have loved how the hydrogen peroxide bleach is only turning the Reflecting Pool blue around the perimeter
An interesting thread from a month ago that predicted exactly what we’re seeing in the reflecting pool now (peeling up, prolific microbial activity)
HAHAHAhaha! they're making the world's biggest synthetic scum pond!!! The coating is a polyurea used inside pipes. It gels in about 3 seconds, making it non self-leveling. The texture is like an orange peel, the perfect substrate for biofilms. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/19/u...

the world falling apart sucks real bad, but it's amazing that New York somehow slipped into an Disney Channel Original Movie alternate reality where our problems are fixed by Mayor Socialism and the Power of Friendship wins basketball championships.
The kind of smirk you make when you have strategically laid down on top of Lake Superior and a few key pieces of Canada, thus preventing the small human from finishing his puzzle. Well played, Porthos.
It was so hot in Vermont yesterday that our coconut oil melted on the kitchen counter 🫠 (We hadn't put in the ACs yet)
This was my 2nd year coaching tee ball, and my team had their Jamboree today. Y'all - getting little kids excited about baseball is SO MUCH FUN! I'm so proud of my Dragons and my heart is full 🐉⚾
River of Dreams was *my* first Billy Joel album. I was a kid, and my parents had his earlier stuff, but this one was all mine. It's still in regular rotation for me.
what is the best billy joel song? my standby answer is river of dreams, but honesty really hits these days
I got our cat a treat puzzle, and it's fantastic! We also learned that he's left-handed, which means we are now officially a major leftie household! 5/5 Highly recommend!
Happy Start of Summer for Phineas and Ferb! Ferb - I know what we're going to do today! (We had our last tee ball practice)
Summer Vacation Days Ending
Alt: Opening sequence from Phineas and Ferb. The calendar starts on June 3 and the days pages fly off to mark the 104 days of summer vacation before school comes along just to end it.

We are a Disney family, and I'm raising 3rd Gen Disney fans. My 4th grader is currently obsessed with Michael Jackson, along with all of his classmates. Naturally, this means that I introduced him to Captain Eo tonight. It's a deep cut that I doubt his friends have seen or know exists.

Cameron Park Zoo in Waco TX has a new black-footed cat kitten (Felis nigripes). It's exploring grass for the 1st time here. This species is the smallest wild cat in Africa, but with the highest hunting success (~60%). They eat 1/6th their body weight in rodents & birds every night.
