I won't be directly working with patients but being in the public health field and one day becoming an epidemiologist, it's important to educate people on how nutrition works. I would love to be a part of a project that educates families & children on the effects of UPF and how its easy to eat them.

one thing I'll be looking for in any nutrition post is what company is affiliated with the post. for example, if the company Coca-Cola is stating that UPF's are healthy for you Id know it's a bias post, since they sell UPF's and most likely saying that for more consumers. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
@chewthefacts.bsky.social rustnutrition.com/blog/2026/01... This is a great article that mentions UPFs. The DGA is finally talking about the negative effects of UPF and how it's not real food. Hopefully, it reaches people who continue to consume them without knowing. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Behold: The Upside Down Pyramid! - Rust Nutrition Services – Chew The Facts®
The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) are finally here, and it’s kind of a mess. I offered a few quotes here, and I have lots of other thoughts. The first thing that stood out to me is ...

UPFs are really misleading, and not everyone is aware of them. Many people eat UPFs daily, thinking thats what normal food is supposed to taste like, and last. What I found was a coffee creamer that has multiple toxic ingredients when its easy to just make creamer at home with simple ingredients.
I found Toms story very emotional. I think the part where he knew he wasn't physically healthy, but he kept pushing food down felt real. I think his story makes me want to be intentional into what I consume. for clients I think its important to remember how everyone deserves a life of good quality.
I wasn't surprised they are saying to avoid highly processed foods, but more surprised they didn't really explain what those foods are. Not much detail was given, and a lot of people eat UPFs daily, not knowing they're UPFs. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
A barrier I chose to write about from table 3 is lack of time to plan or shop. an experience that I'd like to share is going to work after school I don't have much time to get food, so I end up eating egg noodles with butter and salt. I noticed I'm missing a lot of my main nutrients. #beh353
This cute image is eye-catching, making it known that foods like oranges and bananas are packed with potassium and vitamin C, which makes consumers more curious and willing to incorporate them into their diets. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Banana + orange = bunny magic! Transformed into a mama rabbit and baby bunny, this sweet #FoodArt creation is packed with potassium & vitamin C. Cute, creative, and nutritious!
This paper touches on the issues of ED. There are a lot of people who are dealing with ED who don't understand the physiology of what's going on when people restrict food, but only see what they want to see from the outside. There should be more education when it comes to food and the human body.
New paper! We show how diet culture & weight stigma are baked into eating disorder treatment—leading to missed diagnoses in higher-weight people, BMI-based denial of care, thin-centric programs, and clinicians unintentionally reinforcing fear of weight gain. www.jandonline.org/action/showP...
I found this nutrition expert talking about the 4 foods that help lower high cholesterol. When reading this article, these oats and avocados seem to be high in fiber which is a carbo-macronutrient. It's interesting to learn which simple foods have such strong effects. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This expert posted a nutrition guide from 1943. This doesn't look as flashy or intense as food advertisements now. This is definitely emphasizing how big names and intriguing marketing can influence people without much research behind it.
A rare find at a Flea Market: A Nutrition Guide from October 1943 with Frank Sinatra promoting nutrition. This was a time in American History when foods were rationed and much of the literature during WW2 emphasized the 7 foods groups. #eatright #Nutrition #FrankSinatra #Military #NationalRetroDay
A interesting popular press I found was how eating yogurt can help your gut health. There's a lot of misleading ad's on unhealthy yogurts and its important to incorporate the right yogurt for your microbiome. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social www.eatingwell.com/gut-benefits...

This is a very interesting article talking about how many changes they made to the dietary guidlines but how it may just continue the same or get worse with how expensive food is getting. publichealth.berkeley.edu/articles/new... #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
How the nation’s new dietary guidelines might backfire
When the federal government issued its recommendations for a healthy diet last week, many nutritionists and health care providers were appalled.

The FAD diet I was interested in was the Atkins diet, where you pick a low amount of carbs to eat a day. It's not sustainable because our bodies need macronutrients throughout the day. Leah Reitmayer RD said why take nutrients your body needs to be healthy. #BEH535 @beh353.bsky.social
I started to see online that Kiwi may be better than taking melatonin. reading this article helped me understand that eating whole foods is healthier and gives you natural vitamins. kiwi isn't only good for melatonin, but it contains a very high % of vitamin C! www.verywellhealth.com/kiwi-study-b...

A new study found that eating two SunGold Kiwis per day could have a positive effect on one's strength and health.

I don't think my recall list was super accurate. I know I eat snacks during the day I can't remember which was a bit hard. I know I ate out this week, and I think there was 2 small cups of Alfredo sauce on my pasta! #beh353
One thing I learned about carbs is that it's essential for our brain to function properly. I see many diets trying to cut out carbs, including fruits and vegetables, which is actually more harmful than good. #beh353 @beh538.bsky.social
This resonated with me because I see a lot of people online cutting sugar and saying carbs are bad for us. I feel like a lot of that is said with really little research, and we should understand our bodies before listening to diet advice. #beh353
Sugar detoxes and sugar addiction? These do not line up with how the body works or how addiction is defined. Learn why detox language misses the mark and how restriction can backfire. #RealWorldNutrition www.shelleyrael.com/blog/sugar-d...
One thing that stood out to me is that instead of scanning articles and looking out for words like "scientific evidence" or "backed by data," it's important to do your own research. This could lead to misinformation when sharing articles and talking about the evidence you've heard. #beh353
I'm a Public Health major graduating in 2027. I'm taking this nutrition elective because I'm interested in how UPFs will affect humans in the future. Will the food industry continue making harmful foods? healthy eating=cucumbers. I love steak, and Brazilian food in general. @beh353 #beh353
