I had a great conversation with Tom for the Book Flood podcast this week! It’s always a joy to talk libraries and take a minute to remember what makes the job of school librarianship so special. Thanks for having me on! @bookfloodpod.bsky.social #tlsky #skybrarians

This is what community looks like! Wyoming’s Book Banning Bill, HB10, FAILED to advance tonight after not being introduced by the deadline. I am so relieved and grateful. I hope this victory can give others a little hope in difficult times. We fight on, together. #fReadom

Text overlayed on a picture of books on shelves reads: WLA wants to thank you for supporting libraries, local control, and intellectual freedom in Wyoming!

My 5⭐️ reads from 2025! Reading is not a competition, it’s about community, and feeling your way from one narrative to the next. Read for yourself in 2026! We should all enjoy the freedom to read and inquire as we please. Stand up for #fREADom this year. ❤️ 📚

I chose option -B- yesterday & it felt so LUXURIOUS to sit & read 2 books, cover to cover. Loved “First State of Being” by Erin Entrada Kelly (deftly drawn characters- really came together for me), & “Xolo” by Donna Barba Higuera was a visual & storytelling treat! #kidlit #booksky #edusky #TLsky

Teacher dilemma- 2nd week of break Do I A)sleep all day B)read all day C)binge watch something D)clean the house E)take on a big house project F)plan lessons for January

Not. Okay. We all need to be watching and standing up for book access and freedom to read, no matter where you live. The consequences of terrible legislation are so far-reaching, and are being effectively copy-pasted in other states. #booksky #freadom

Please don’t take your eyes away from the damage book banning laws are doing in Texas. In Boerne ISD, a kindergarten class was forced to cancel its planned holiday party book exchange due to HB900 and SB13.

A post from Texas Freedom to Read Project featuring Grinch arms pointing to a class communication from a Boerne ISD kindergarten teacher that reads:

“Dear Families,
We regret to let you know that we are going to have to cancel our classroom book exchange for the winter party. Due to the passage of HB 900 and SB 13, we have been informed that books would need to be vetted before being sent home with students. With the quick turnaround, this won't be possible. If your child has already sent in a book, it will be returned to you.
Our room parents have worked hard and we will still have plenty of fun and engaging activities at our winter party.
Thank you for your understanding”

I just updated the settings for my work email, and will update my personal account as well. One of my frustrations with LLMs and the AI race is that they are not seeking the consent of product users, but continue to integrate AI into tools, putting privacy at risk. Where’s my “opt-in?”

Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out. This is legit, and the instructions are fairly simple and work. You have to do the whole thing to every separate Gmail account you have, too.

“The future being pushed by both AI boosters and educational censors is one where access to information is tightly controlled.” Librarians will always fight for your freedom to access information & read without restrictions-AND we need our communities to value & stand up for library professionals!

Librarians told 404 Media they're being inundated with new pitches for AI library tech and catalogs are being flooded with AI slop books. But more broadly, AI maximalism across society is supercharging the ideological war on libraries, schools, government workers, and academics.
