Proudly serving the people of TX-18 in Congress. menefee.house.gov

Families in TX-18 and across the country are struggling with an affordability crisis. Enough is enough. Republicans should stop the games, take responsibility, and work with Democrats to lower costs and make life more affordable for hardworking Americans.

Happy 236 years to the U.S. Coast Guard! To the selfless men and women who put on that uniform everyday and head out to sea to protect people and our coastlines, rescue the stranded, and save lives. Thank you. And shout out to my favorite Coast Guard veterans - mom and pop!

I know how heavy it is to sit around the kitchen table wondering if a massive project like the I-45 expansion is going to push your family or your business out. I went out to TxDOT’s new workshop series to discuss how we can protect our neighborhoods and local businesses affected by the expansion.

7 years ago today, a white supremacist murdered 23 innocent people in El Paso in a horrific act of domestic terrorism. Today, we honor every victim, stand with the families whose lives were forever changed, & remember a community that has refused to let hate define it or tragedy diminish its love.

Every El Pasoan knows where they were on August 3rd, 2019. Today remains a solemn day, and despite the passing of time, seven years later our community continues to feel the pain, loss, and devastation from the senseless violence of that day.

Sitting down with neighbors at Hester House in Fifth Ward was a stark reminder of what’s at stake. Under a Trump agenda that ignores working people, families across TX-18 are struggling just to keep the lights on and put food on the table.

The Trump administration has spent every day dodging accountability, hiding the truth, and acting like the rules don't apply to them. That's unacceptable. Democrats are going to keep asking questions, demanding answers, and making sure no administration is above the law.

Had a great time at Kashmere Gardens Multi-Service Center's Back 2 School Resource Fair! There's nothing better than neighbors helping neighbors. I loved handing out school supplies and household essentials to help families get ready for the new school year.

At today’s hearing, Lorenzo’s sons shared the values their father lived by: work hard, do right by others, and good things will come. On the morning he was killed, Lorenzo said a prayer before leaving his driveway just after 6 a.m. He never made it home.

ICE had the money. They had $20 million specifically for body cameras. But when Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed, the officers involved weren't wearing them. At today's congressional hearing in Houston, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare made it clear that this is not normal.

17 years. That's how long working folks have been stuck at $7.25 an hour while the cost of groceries, rent, gas, and just about everything else keeps climbing. My Democratic colleagues and I believe that if you work hard, you ought to earn enough to live with dignity.

Questioned another Trump official today. President Trump said companies could only get federal microchip funding if they were run by transgender people. That's simply false. When I asked his own official about it, they couldn't defend it.

I'm the son of two veterans, my family bought our first home because of a VA home loan, I know firsthand what these benefits mean. Yet Republicans are proposing with a bill that would slash disability benefits, raise costs on VA home loans, & make life even harder for those who served our country.

Happy 713 Day, Houston. This year, the day feels different. Less than a week ago, our community lost Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. His family deserves answers, and Houston deserves accountability. As I head back to Washington, I carry Houston with me.

I joined the vigil last night to honor Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and be with a community demanding answers. Houston is speaking with one voice. We will not simply take ICE at its word. We're demanding the facts, full transparency, and an independent investigation into what happened.
