The 2026 map shows many western Oklahoma locations with 20–30+ 100-degree days but far fewer across central and eastern Oklahoma. By contrast, the drought years of 2022, 2012, and especially 2011 show much more widespread and higher totals, with many western sites exceeding 40–70 days at or above 100°F. Okmulgee’s heat index kept rising ‘til well after 7 pm, settling at a high of 125.24F, the 6th-highest daily max heat index in Mesonet history. Tops remains Jay’s 126.74F back on Aug. 21, 2023. Mesonet heat index records go back to 1997. #okwx #okmesonet
