Artist and woodcarver in Alaska. Fine art/illustration/fantasy/imaginative realism. I use tiny chisels to hand carve intricate designs into painted wood panels. Out of necessity, I now work ambidextrously 🙌 www.mfanwydean.com
Made ceramic Korok sculptures for me and both my brothers for fun!
#art A few years back I was training to be ambidextrous after an injury to my right hand by drawing separate images simultaneously. It really helped! I eventually went on to carve left handed.
#birds Chickadee carving from a while back. Kept this one for myself, it hangs in my studio over the carving station on my desk.
Sold! One of my favorite pieces I’ve done found it’s new home last month! Time to start thinking about starting some new pieces I believe.
Where are people ordering bulk paper prints these days? I’ve been doing more specialty items like wood prints for years now, but I’d like to add a more affordable option as well. What are your recs?
New here, figured I'd share my newest painting for Magic the Gathering to get the ball rolling. Captivating Vampire for Innistrad Remastered, 18x24 inches, oil on panel, 2024
Migrating over here in search of bluer skies. To start things off, and in honor of the impending release of 'Wind and Truth,' here's some of my past work for the lovely folk over at Dragonsteel for Brandon Sanderson's 'Stormlight Archive'!
Simultaneously drawn Jackrabbits! These were part of my lefty practice when I was teaching my non dominant hand to wield a chisel! #amiambidextrousnow?
Another mushroom! An envelope sketch I did when sending a package years back after I’d gone on my first morel foraging trip!

Moth wing earrings! The color scheme for this pair is inspired by the ever gorgeous Luna moth.
I need to level up my painting skills so I can do more multimedia pieces like this one. “Breakthrough” 2017
Low-relief paper sculpture of a pigeon wing. It was frustratingly difficult to take a good picture of this. At some point, I'd like to attempt a more detailed wing, but this 'quick' one answered my craving to make it at the time. From 2018, six years ago on this very day.
