Just learned that the great historian of The Russian Revolution Alexander Rabinowitch has passed away at the age of 91. I never met him, but his brilliant studies of the revolution in Petrograd have had a massive impact on my thinking since I first encountered them in high school.

Nancy Fraser on Gaza and philosemitic McCarthyism in Europe and the US: “anti-woke war against the universities—and against civil society more broadly—came straight from McCarthy’s playbook, painting campuses as incubators of intolerance, where ‘Marxist professors’ oppressed conservative students.”

I've just gotten through the second of two major interviews this week and I am now heading back to Copenhagen to discuss 120+ abstracts and make the selection for the @dkmarxsoc.bsky.social conference in October. Not sure what day it is, but it's already been one hell of a week.

Famous meme of captain Haddock from Tintin saying “What a week, huh?” And Tintin responding “Captain, it’s Wednesday.”

Market competition is hollowing out humanities in England

Hertfordshire’s announcement of course closures is the latest example of a dynamic that cuts off non-traditional students from non-vocational courses, says Dragan Plavsic

Had a great time presenting my research on "Populism and Antipopulism in the Climate Debate" at the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters yesterday. Lots of great presentations and thought-provoking questions and discussions.

Ben-Gvir, a key ally of Trump and Israel’s Minister of National Security, as well as leader of the far-right ultranationalist Otzma Yehudit party, posted a video of himself verbally abusing and mocking international human rights defenders while they were chained, forced to kneel, and abused.
