Six transgender and nonbinary candidates made history on Election Day by winning races in states that have never elected a trans person into their legislature before. These candidates will expand LGBTQ+ political power at a time when their rights are increasingly under attack nationwide.

These trans and nonbinary candidates just made history

Across six states, these Democratic candidates will be the first transgender and nonbinary people to serve in their state legislatures.

It’s election day today and the polls are open throughout Minnesota! Don’t forget to vote! While Northland Media does not endorse specific candidates we support the rights of all people regardless of race, religion, sexuality, gender identity, or immigration status.

In 1764, James Otis wrote that “the very act of taxing, exercised over those who are not represented, appears to me to be depriving them of one of their most essential rights, as freemen; and if continued, seems to be in effect an entire disfranchisement of every civil right.” #ElectionDay

A recent 🧵by @elisewang.bsky.social explains the difficulty of finding executioners in medieval Europe. It’s an excellent 🧵. I find a similar thing in my research: even those tasked with executing people didn't want to stick around to watch them die. They left if they could. bsky.app/profile/elis...

A return to firing squad everywhere might finally end the death penalty. Why? Because people have to be directly involved in executions (not pressing a button) it’s terrifically difficult to get them to do it. Medieval executions had the same problem!
