USA-Australia, not obscure. But in 1865 CSS Shenandoah was chasing Union whalers and broke down, anchored near Melbourne, and since not much happened in Melbourne, became the focus of a week long party featuring a formal ball. After repair it went on to fire the final shots of the Civil War.

During the World Cup watch out for Haiti’s shirt which depicts the Battle of Vertieres in 1803, the final battle of the Haitian Revolution against Napoleon’s France - and slavery. First game next Saturday.
