I found myself unexpectedly moved yesterday during my visit to the New York Public Library, where one of the few surviving “fair copies” of the Declaration of Independence, handwritten by Thomas Jefferson, is on display. Love of country, love of city — it hit me all at once. Thank you NYPL!
The Supreme Court upheld the clear meaning of the Constitution in protecting birthright citizenship and rejecting Donald Trump’s latest attempt to do violence to our democracy. All Americans should be glad that the Court has not completely been overtaken by a partisan, revanchist agenda.

New York has a critical opportunity to lead on environmental protection by passing the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act this session. The law would significantly reduce plastic packaging and eliminate toxic PFAS chemicals from our communities.
Donald Trump’s DHS is abusing and killing our immigrant neighbors while allowing private contractors and detention companies to profit from it. We need to shut down Delaney Hall and abolish ICE.

They tell me there is one full-time doctor for 800 detainees. They could have more doctors if they wanted to, but that's cutting into their profits."
Louisiana just became the 2nd state to eliminate a majority-Black congressional district since the Supreme Court gutted the VRA last month. This map is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise Black voters — a third of the state's population — and steal congressional seats.

Detainees at Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark are on a hunger & work strike demanding release, medical care, and humane conditions. @nadler.house.gov oversight visit confirmed deeply disturbing neglect. This facility must be investigated and closed. And we must abolish ICE.
The newly passed NYS budget will finally increase SCRIE and DRIE income limits from $50,000 to $75,000. This is an incredible win for thousands of older adults and New Yorkers with disabilities who will now qualify for rent freezes and much needed tax relief!
