There's a clip doing the rounds from Louis Theroux's podcast interview with Mike D, where he queries the Beastie Boys' line "I've got more stories than JD's got Salinger" and says: "JD Salinger only wrote 10 stories." He says this with such confidence, like a gotcha, but it's completely wrong?!

Not to bang the BFI drum but there's a good bunch of Tony Rayns works in the Mediatheque at BFI Southbank. Editions of VISIONS with specials on the cinema of Shanghai, Hong Kong + Vietnam, plus a Q&A with Bong Joon Ho circa MOTHER and a lecture on the films of Hou Hsiao-Hsien.

Grok has a *real* problem with Japanese names. Below are the second and third times in a month that I've spotted auto-translated posts that mix up two Japanese anime directors: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai in the first; Satoshi Kon and Mamoru Oshii in the second. How is this happening?

Just read an astonishing Grok error over on X, where the in-app translation changed "高畑勲" (Isao Takahata) to "Hayao Miyazaki" on a post about Anne of Green Gables. My fault for frequenting that site and relying on machine translation, but still... Now they're not even getting names right. Be alert!
