Had a Red Admiral butterfly come by! Only saw this guy one other time this year
It’s October 8th and the green bean harvest is still going crazzzzyyy. Have enough for my next meal and to also blanch, freeze for winter
First blueberry from the garden!!! That probably means this plant is stressed since I planted like two weeks ago lol.. but still cool to have a blueberry form my backyard
Isaias is forecast to begin impacting the northern Gulf Coast by Friday afternoon with damaging winds, flooding rains, and deadly storm surge. TODAY is the time to make your preparations. www.noaa.gov/isaias
Made some beef stroganoff with the Maitake mushrooms. The beef is the worst part of the dish believe it or not. Maitakes are so meaty themselves
Went mushroom foraging today and I found SIX maittake mushrooms! Only grabbed ones maybe two
Not me picking up my niece and her yard was filled with my favorite flower (Liatris) and… I just had to
Driving feels like a different world the more I learn about plants. Idk how to describe the feeling but it’s a new perspective of life
I don’t think she has a spine (she sleeps like this ALL the time)
All this rain.. it’s probably time for some fall mushroom foraging soon
Today’s harvest before it rains tomorrow. Potatoes, Thai chilis, onions, broccoli, tomatoes, cucumbers
Planted some native low bush blueberries, Vaccinium Angustifolium. eventually I’ll beautify this area a bit more but I wanted to get these in the ground before it starts getting colder
I’m sick but we planted some more natives yesterday. New Jersey Tea, Clematis (Virgin’s Bower), and Boneset Next year these all should be glorious
Probably the closest I’ve gotten to a swallowtail. The contrast between the red zinnia and this guy is so strikingly pretty
This is a random clump of asters that grew near my compost pile and I don’t know what it is and I want MORE
Made some pickles for the winter with yesterdays harvest. Tho probably not gonna last that long on the shelf
Here’s another “weed” that turned out to be an aster of some kind. Now this I have no idea. There’s multiple of the same that turned into something shrub-like. SO many flowers
There were a couple, tall plants that I thought were weeds behind my compost bin. Couldn’t figure out what it was and waited until it flowered. Finally, it did and I’m glad I waited!! Ended being Smooth Blue Asters and they are SO showy. They look white, but in person it’s more light blue
I was wondering who kept eating chunks of my sunflower
I thought my green beans mutated, but who knew there’s a milkweed that vines. I def want to plant it, tho maybe not in my green bean patch next year lol
Today’s harvest we got: habaneros, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, baby broccoli, and a single okra
I got called out by @midlatwx.bsky.social for putting “Food Enthusiast” on my bsky and not posting food enough so here is my dinner last night! Went to a nice tavern and got a bison burger! It looked so good but the bun completely fell apart right after taking the photo lol tasted good though!
