Despite holding degrees, professional certifications, and years of experience, many engineers, nurses, IT specialists, academics, and finance professionals struggle to access careers that match their skills.
Those impacted by this policy are among the poorest of an already vulnerable group. If those seeking asylum can support themselves they are expected to already. What this government is doing is bringing in debt bondage as policy to penalise people for seeking safety. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The asylum appeals system is far from perfect, but putting the lives of those seeking safety in the hands of unqualified individuals is not the answer. The system needs genuine investment, not treating people's lives as if they are a public debate. www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

These are not "new routes". Community sponsorship existed for a decade. This is an attempt to deflect from how this government has closed genuine "safe routes" and is now replacing them with restricted, inaccessible, schemes which will exclude many needing asylum. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The government's hostile anti-asylum/immigration policies pose significant risks to the lives of people who have already fled for their lives in search of safety. They strip people of basic human rights & treat them as if they are disposable. They must be opposed www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

🧵 The launch of our ‘Outside In’ photo exhibition at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow was a roaring success.
Migrant Voice was honoured to share a platform with our friends at Show Racism the Red Card, represented by our very own Nazek Ramadan at Unison Conference. Unfortunately, migrants are a target of the populist right, and it’s so crucial to challenge those narratives. Thank you for having us.
DATE FOR YOUR DIARY 🗓️ Join us in Glasgow on June 20 for the launch our exhibition ‘Outside In’, featuring the beautiful and inspiring work of migrant photographers, documenting how people from different nations and what they bring to Scotland.
Migrants already face "double taxation" via extortionate visa costs and the Immigration Health Surcharge. Taxing us further doesn't help, it just penalises people for where they were born. We need a system which treats migrants with respect not hostility. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...
Last month Migrant Voice published its damning report on the impact of extortionate visa fees and long settlement routes. Here’s an explainer of our findings, and the true cost of this decision. #migrant #actiononvisas #dropthefees #mentalhealth #jobs
We utterly condemn the violence being seen in Belfast and Glasgow. These are not "protests" they are race riots. They are far right fuelled attacks against communities, leaving people in fear. Women and children trapped in their homes by hostile mobs who threaten violence against them.
Public Accounts Committee has warned the asylum system is "on the brink of collapse". That's not the fault of those in it. Years of hostile policies have left the system broken and failing those most in need. People are left in limbo by hostile and inhumane policies which fail to provide protection.
These are not "protests" they are riots. Riots fuelled by the very hate and division which Henry Nowak's father warned against. Just as in 2024, these are riots aimed at making minorities and migrants fearful of going outside, and should be condemned. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
"The decline in people coming to UK shown by immigration stats is not a shock. Migrants are not numbers on a spreadsheet. This drop reflects our lives and the hostility we face and more migrants leaving the country. It shows families ripped apart and lives destroyed."
Thank you to everyone who made our report launch in parliament a huge success. Thank you to the inspiring speakers who shared their experiences & research on the impact of the cost of visas and long settlement routes. Together we will keep working for a fairer system. #ActionOnVisas #DropTheFees

Today in the Times the brutality of French tactics the UK pays for is shown. By ripping children from mothers they have caused a 3-year-old to cross alone. The extortionate costs of visas, sometimes 10 x the actual processing costs, already leave many impoverished and families ripped apart. The fees are now set to go up again. We need a system which is fair. Support our campaign for fees limited to processing costs & settlement routes capped at 5 years
