aviation is unforgiving, causal factors aren't a value judgement on them as people btw if you want to blame someone who isn't dead, blame the air ambulance operator for dispatching an inexperienced crew into a known high risk situation, and Congress for refusing to crack down on Part 135 operators
also air travel has gotten objectively better yknow what used to happen a couple times a year and no longer happens at all? An airliner would be landing with a thunderstorm within 10-15 miles of the field and the plane would just randomly fall out of the sky

if you aren't able to safely operate an aircraft without GPS you shouldn't have a license
I think a lot of this idiot discourse is underpinned by not understanding the function a NOTAM is supposed to serve and the responsibility any aviator has to review and be familiar with all NOTAMs pertaining to anywhere along their planned flight route
It's actually worse than this, as to contiue the analogy this crew had a magic "make it clear to a million" button (cease buzzer), used it.....and then undid the button

Probably not, but the accident cause isn't the wx, or forecasting, or the manufacturer, or the FAA's training standards.......it's the dumbass who flew into known IMC without an instrument rating, picture unrelated
one of the other other things about this is the jamming was occurring after midnight local.....deliberately, because that is the least disruption to the NAS (should be little to no GA and airliners won't be flying in to airports in the impacted area/stuff like x-country redeyes can fly around)

The preliminary report is a statement of fact that doesn't draw causal conclusions There's no basis to reasonably draw a conclusion the jamming was any more causal than the wx when someone flies into known IMC without an instrument rating
Justin Ling@justinling.ca · 20h agoSure. I think it would be wrong to say that the jamming was *the* reason for the crash. But I think the NTSB report makes clear that it was a contributing factor — not necessarily the main one — which is exactly what the WIRED report says. I don't think the report rules it out as a factor, at all.
also I just realized this piece has further distorted it by framing it as a "GPS weapon" NAVFEST provides an environment for open air testing of nav equipment against high dB; the jammers aren't "weapons" insofar as they are intended to provide a testing environment
