Brother Johnathon entered the Monastery of Silence.
The Priest said, 'Brother, this is a silent convent. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until I direct you to do so.
Brother Jonathon lived in the monastery for 5 years before the Priest said to him, "You have been here for 5 years. You may speak two words."
Brother Jonathon said, "Hard bed."
"I'm sorry to hear that," the Priest said, "We will get you a better bed."
After another 5 years, Brother Jonathon was again called by the Priest. "You may say another two words."
"Cold food," were the words he spoke. The Priest assured him that the food would be better in the future.
On his 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Priest once more called Brother Jonathon into his office. "You may say two words today."
"I quit," said Jonathon.
"It's probably best", said the Priest, "You've done nothing but complain since you got here."

One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up tohim excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"
"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."
"Three?"
"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
"Oh no," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."
"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"
"No, on the contrary..."
"So," Socrates interrupted, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"
The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.
Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?"
"Well it....no, not really..."
"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"
The man was defeated and ashamed. This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
It also explains why he never found out that Plato was having an affair with his wife.

In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel outside, to see if wild animals would use it like their domesticated counterparts. The answer: hell yes! 734 visits from wild mice - plus rats, shrews, slugs ("running" being subjective here) & even frogs and snails. The apparent reason: fun. Just fun.
