Ive reached out to SPD; during past emergency incidents when he’s been elsewhere, they’ve told me it’s no problem because of his qualified staff.
First you means test, making sure it's only the poor who receive benefits. Then you say we can't afford the benefit, because it might require shifting the budget from your real priorities. Finally you cut benefits, because the poor don't have the time and money to protest.

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social · 3w agoOne of the arguments against funding universal school meals in Seattle now is "the money may run out and we'll have to yank the program in 3 years." What's baffling to me about that argument is that the council funds things with literal ONE-TIME money all the time. This is an ongoing tax source!

If only the public knew how much waste there was in the consultant business model, they'd be gathering the pitchforks. Even if an equivalent government employee sat on their ass and did nothing most of the time, they'd be far more efficient and cost-effective than even the best consulting firms.

Contrary to the GOP's statement, Mitch McConnell was last seen inside a Quantum Care Unit where he was medically placed in a superposition of being dead and alive. Those close to the family have asked reporters not to investigate further, as observing McConnell's condition might change his outcome.

Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social · 4w agoSeattle Councilmembers Joy Hollingsworth and Dionne Foster have an amendment to the city's education levy that would postpone spending $3 million on universal school meals—a priority for Mayor Katie Wilson—and instead use that money for meals on weekends and over school breaks for low-income kids.
Decided to take a walk around the neighborhood last night. Turns out, giving teenagers a shitload of fireworks and no adult supervision has predictable results. Was amazed that nothing caught on fire and that no one got hurt.
