Burning Man is great because you build a little society for a week and then burn the man at the end. If Burning Man was a 24/7 event it would be a disaster. Sentiment about social media would do a 180 if it was all the best posts in a few weeks and people prepped for it to impress each other.

I increasingly feel that the problem with social media is it's omnipresent and people would be just fine with it if it was a digital festival we threw for a few months of the year in spring or summer. There's only so much useful information to process, slop exists because demand outstrips supply.

Some very exciting news - it looks like the working group for AT Protocol at the IETF has been approved! (though not formalized in the datatracker just yet) This is a big milestone in the standards process. But is also just the start of the actual process - years of meetings & work ahead!

i think it would be cool to have a social media app where the context is people within your geolocation- their art and music and media and events as well as local ecology and seasonal recipes with what's at peak harvest at your farmer's market

i keep trying to use bsky but it makes me sad every time i try to scroll a feed or view posts linked by friends and i'm blocked by the poster or by whoever they're quoting or replying to. i'm not going to make a new account to evade the blocks, but ....

Vertical farms are another of those solarpunk technologies that have the potential to radically change the world for the better. but only viable with power too cheap to meter.

My sister in Christ, if you weren't you would not be having recurring meltdowns about gender on main. Cis people don't have those! What you have is a lot of internalized transphobia and self exploration pending. We've all been there! Hell, this kind of doubts are the most trans coded thing!

I think refusals should be phrased as "I don't want to do that" instead of "I can't do that". Jailbreaks are a thing, so "I can't" is usually factually incorrect. Also "I don't want to" illustrates more accurately that the attacker is violating boundaries

i was homeschooled from 15 to 18 at my request bec i was depressed and bored with hs. my homeschooling consisted of enrolling at community college w a full course load, not my parents teaching. imo it was the best path for me and homeschooling is an important opt-out from an oppressive system

i've had this recurring thought- we're lacking a set of primitives an average person would find intuitive to use to describe software features they want. even just for visual design, code isn't factored in a way that humans can directly nudge w more this / less that to hillclimb to their ideal

while it’s true that a lot more people are going to be able to build their own personalized software, i do not believe that most people are going to *want* to build their own personal software or even have the vision/skill/time to do so effectively
