i think basically all of my characters are either women or nonbinary/agender or some combination because men are simply not that interesting to me at face value. it takes a lot of particular things for me to become invested in male characters. they are most interesting when they remind me of women

simple and handy guide to the genders of the Very Normal Beetles

diagram of "genders" of twelve cartoon beetle characters in a human sense. There are six beetles under "boys", and an arrow pointing to one says "Clav is uncomfortable when not accompanied by an ant". There are five beetles under "girls". Clav's nurse ant is under "Diploid Worker Female". Finally, the last beetle is technically "Paedogenetic Female of Unknown Ovary Type" because she could be three of a possible five sexes (presented in a flowchart), but it's impossible to tell which for the purposes of the audience. This is because bugs can do whatever they want

Normal Beetles: coming to stationary near you (not really, but wouldn't that be fun?)

upper left: "Xen" is a Xenomorphon. A wingless beetle who cries easily. He always wants to watch the same three movies.
upper right: "Atra" is an Atractocerus. A very long and flexible beetle who can fit in narrow areas. He gets nervous in big crowds.
lower left: "Clav" is a Claviger. A beetle who is always showing up in places without having been invited. He's a nice guy, though, so everyone is usually okay with it.
lower right: "Para" is a Paratuposa. A very small and light beetle who is blown around by strong wind. She brushes her wings for two hours every day.

lower left: "Kero" is a Cerocranus. A fussy beetle who cares a lot about his looks. He is often late to things, because he gets distracted by mirrors and windows.
lower right: "Ness" is a Cnestus. A small beetle who knows a lot about mushrooms. If she starts talking about something she likes, she will never stop.

lower left: "Mel" is a Meloetyphlus. A loud beetle who loves the sound of her own voice. Even though she has a huge head, she forgets things easily.
lower right: "Trak" is a Trachelismus. A beetle who can always see over the crowd at concerts. He has been getting into origami lately.

I was outside with my dog for like 5 minutes and not only did it feel like a sauna but I also got 2 weirdly painful mosquito bites in the span of like 30 seconds. Its not even dark out. I hate summer
