So excited to share this illustration I had the pleasure of creating for Bloomberg Businessweek for the article “The Steamy, Magical and Now Very Lucrative Romantasy Business” by Hannah Miller and Madison Muller. Such a fun one to work on! Art direction by Chandra Illick.

My vampire and werewolf piece are in there! There's so many incredible artists in this book and a rare case where we were all compensated for the use of our art, so be sure to support the project if you're interested and able!

A vampire stands in profile against a background of radiating red diamonds surrounded by grasping handsA snarling wolf's head splits in two with a person's face revealed in between the halves, two sets of eyes glow with the same yellow light of the moon overhead

My style now isn’t as ‘mature’ or ‘marketable’ or whatever but I have so much more fun doing it. It feels like a style that is MINE, rather than trying to clamber towards the professional standard to fantastical realism.

My professional goal used to be to be able to paint in a magical realism style and decided a while ago that I really dreaded doing it. But I sometimes wonder what would’ve happened if I kept going…….. These are from 8-11 years ago.
