The stuff happening with Bridgerton & its Black characters is why we need to push for more Black authors to get their works adapted. Writers who originally intended for their characters to be Black & not the ones who had to persuaded by production to diversify their characters.

who up thinking about Jayce Talis remembering those he loves while trapped in the ravine to keep himself sane and the concept art of him clutching a drawing of Mel Medarda he made while in the pit? 🥺 #arcane

A reddit response from Amanda Overton discussing Arcane that says:

Jayce is a passionate guy who wears his heart on his sleeve a lot of the time. I see him as always looking for something to like in everything he does. Being a Councilor was certainly a challenge since there wasn't a lot to like about what he had to do as one.

I always love stories where someone can look into the deepest dark, and still find light. When Jayce was alone in the dark pit, he didn't let his demons consume him. He remembered who he loved, what he loved and why - and why those things are worth fighting for.Concept art of Jayce Talis from the Arcane art book that shows him in the ravine holding a hand drawn image of Mel Medarda. Meljay is implied.

A lot of these professionals think that they deserve prestige or respect for making it industries that largely rely on nepotism — just something we should all remember — okay, so do something worth respecting then. You want me to kowtow to you bc you draw sprites? Stop being antiBlack first

it's funny that how in a show called the arcane, none of those dvd extras for s2 had anyone talk about mel becoming a mage, or how they designed her new look, or how they choose to animate her magic just absolutely nothing for her every time...and we're supposed to think this is normal?

When you have nonBlack writers and professionals working with Black characters, their biases always come through. And they're SO upset when their title doesn't shield them from criticism. Being behind a company account doesn't make you infallible. It just makes you a bigger idiot than other idiots

Shame on all of you giggling along and liking posts making fun of Black women. This is why so many people keep leaving the fandom, the unchecked rampant anti-Black racism that makes these spaces intolerable. Before anyone tries to argue, read this then get back to me feminegra.com/mel-medarda-...

Mel Medarda Deserves Better in Arcane and League of Legends

Mel Medarda is a main character in Arcane but sidelined in media, fandom, and merch. Fans are demanding real recognition now.

There's nothing funny about this because this is about racism and how Mel is often written in racist, stereotypical, and misogynistic ways. There are jayvik fics where Mel is being tortured, experimented on, brutalized, and abused for the sake of propping up JV.

This point exactly. Everyone acted shocked when Youtooz posted a video of Mel being brutalized, saying they didn’t understand why a company thought that would appeal to the Arcane fandom, yet a month later we have people openly mocking Black fans for pointing out racism.

They run and ignore black people at the slightest pushback. Then they wonder why their fandom is so widely known for racism or why Youtooz felt comfortable posting a video of Viktor running over Mel.

Rudo “died” in a similar fashion to Jayce, and I find that choice to be extremely suspicious. Like it's such a specific way to go, I wanna know what the conversations were behind the scenes when it came to that. To be a fly on the wall when Clarke was meeting with the folks at Riot about Rudo.
