Ask me things about Austin game development. Knows people. Austin Game Dev Beer Night, Yellow Card Services, et al.

They doubled their staff since acquisition, moved into nifty new office space and made ... Keeper. Yeah, it's good that they found the means to be independent again. In San Francisco, one of the most expensive places to live or work. InXile and Obsidian didn't get the opportunity to divest in OC.

The newly independent Double Fine is laying off staff today, three weeks after Xbox divested the studio as part of its massive restructuring.

It's just not worth my time to shop at stores that assume I'm a criminal. Some chains are just too big and are run by lunatics in board rooms, though maybe I'm spoiled by stores where I can just put what I want in a basket and not immediately be assumed I'm trying to steal anything.

Great piece on the largely imaginary shoplifting surge: I do think one thing the piece misses is that a bunch of major police departments started years-long work slowdowns in 2020 where they refused to do their jobs (often falsely claiming their hands were tied by woke prosecutors)

This of course affects Austin, because Archetype and Skeleton Key both started here, and the former still has Exodus in development. Once upon a time there was Fortnite, and a year after it came out, several big companies thought, We Need Big New IP Now. Those things cost money, talent and time.

After several years running touting its big push to develop video games in-house, Hasbro has canceled multiple in-development projects and seems to be backing off. https://kotaku.com/hasbro-56-million-impairment-charge-video-games-canceled-2000718018

This is a *fantastic* video that explains exactly WTF is going on with Taylor Farms and how tracing works TLDR: - they are responsible - the false positive was only on one of several samples - it’s difficult to test parasites - there may still be other sources - Taylor Farms is being shady AF

The world needs all kinds of minds. Human minds. Made-up minds can't actually do much of anything, and the humans that know better, ought to. Expertise is not "gatekeeping." Part of the reason diversity is a strength is that not everybody is going to be good at everything there is to do.

I am exasperated with people accusing programmers of "gatekeeping" programming. We were practically dragging people through the gate. Do you know why a mindless LLM can tell you so much great programming information? It's because we've been sharing that information for free online for decades.
