The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.

btw it will probably end up being more. that much demand so utterly changes the supply stack its going to have all kinds of changes. you'll not only need more generation (somewhat known) but its the changes required in T&D then how power flows adapt.

i have long said, this is likely the only way to decarbonize remote northern communities stuck on diesel generation. you need a drop and forget solution that will provide heat and power.

because every rate payer is militantly refusing to pay even slightly higher rates. the average utility rate in AUS is $0.31/kWh (AUS/CAD is basically par) vs $0.14/kWh in Canada. So yeah, double rates in Canada and lots of utilities could easily offer such a program.

After having "seen behind the curtain" of a utility IRP process. I can tell you one thing for sure. Part of your faith in basic "common sense" and literacy will die. They will read X, they say it means Y, but then decide Z actually. I don't profess to have better solutions, but not for me. Ever.

Canadians need to stop looking at utilities for broad decarbonization plans. Focus needs to be on policy; Municipal, provincial, and federal. Policy direction (and consistency in them) will give roadmaps that utilities can follow. but visionary change isnt coming from public utility CEOs.
