Kevin Gausman confirms he will be making Cubs debut Friday in Kansas City. Gausman said the last couple days have been pretty weird after 5 years with TOR. “It was a little crazy but really excited to be around these guys & watching the team play last two days, like, why wouldn't you be excited?”

Cubs beat Dodgers, 5-1, in Tarik Skubal's LAD debut. Javier Assad, Ryan Rolison, Tyler Ferguson, Ryan Zeferjahn & Jacob Webb combine to limit Dodgers to 4 hits. Dansby Swanson (HR), Nico Hoerner (HR & RBI 1B), Seiya Suzuki (RBI 1B) & PCA (RBI 1B) lead offense. Cubs (65-49) go for sweep tomorrow.

A stellar performance by Javier Assad, who held the Dodgers to 1 ER in 5.2 IP with Tarik Skubal on the mound for LA. Since July 4, the Cubs rotation has a 2.85 ERA, which is 2nd in MLB during that span. And without Taillon's two starts included, the rotation owns a 2.31 ERA

Expect to see Clay Holmes’ next start to be with the Cubs, not another rehab outing. Kevin Gausman’s Cubs debut will happen in Kansas City, not Thurs vs. TOR Based on current alignment, Cubs will likely go with Gausman Friday & Holmes Saturday. Cubs are skipping Colin Rea this turn, Counsell said

The Cubs’ aggressive trade deadline moves shows front office’s belief in the roster with an eye on a deep postseason run. "Ideally, you don’t trade prospects, but at the same time, we’re here to win,” Jed Hoyer said. “We’re here to make this roster better." www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/03/c...

The Cubs, who trailed by three runs after the top of the first inning, recover to beat the Dodgers, 10-5. Cubs (64-49) score multiple runs in an inning four times in the win. Four homers by Alcantara, Suzuki, Busch and Kelly.

Cubs tack on three more runs in the 6th to extend their lead over the Dodgers to 10-5. Big moment by Carson Kelly to challenge a two-out full-count pitch with the bases loaded that initially was called strike 3 but got overturned to bring in a run. Busch followed with 2-run 1B.

Cubs fans fired up after watching Seiya Suzuki throw out Kyle Tucker trying to turn 1B into 2B on ball off RF wall that Suzuki played perfectly. Ended up keeping run off board for LAD as Teoscar Hernández followed with HR Cubs OFs have combined for 19 assists this year, 5th most among MLB outfields

Now it's Carson Kelly who goes deep with 2-run homer to extends the Cubs' lead to 6-3 over Dodgers. Heard the Yankees pushed hard to try to get Kelly before the deadline, but Cubs wouldn't budge, understandably. Their catching duo of Kelly & Miguel Amaya has produced great offense at the position.

Kevin Alcántara, recalled before the game and getting the start in LF, takes the Dodgers' lefty Wroblewski deep for a 2-run HR that puts the Cubs up 4-3 in the 2nd. That is Alcántara's 1st MLB home run.

Cubs haven't made any rotation decisions yet for where Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes will slot in. Cubs want to talk to Holmes to see if he wants one more rehab start or if he's ready to come off IL. Holmes got up to 73 pitches yesterday in his third rehab start.

Cubs make it official: They acquired RHP Clay Holmes and OF Tyrone Taylor from the New York Mets for prospect Jefferson Rojas. In a corresponding move, LHP Luke Little has been designated for assignment. Cubs’ 40-man roster is full.

A couple Cubs injury updates: Edward Cabrera will make his next rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa. Daniel Palencia starts his rehab assignment at Triple A on Wednesday. Hoby Milner will make another rehab outing with Iowa tomorrow. Hunter Harvey threw ‘pen Saturday

The Cubs’ acquisition of LHP Braxton Garrett from the Marlins for minor-league infielder Jonathon Long and minor-league right-handed pitcher Jace Beck is official. Garrett has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
