One tastes good now, one tastes good in 8 months time.
Managed to pick some not so heavily bletted as well as this one, so they would survive in sacks and travelling. Was worth to effort for a new single variety at 1075sg. Anyone else think blotted pears have a caviar look about them?
"Old Father Time checked, so there'd be no doubt Called on the north wind to come on out Then cupped his hands so proudly to shout La-di-da, di-da-di-dum, 'tis Autumn" fresh pickings, fresh fermentations almost feels like a new year beginnings.
Annual rossfest Saturday traditions! Bringing back my flybenight mug for it's dry michelin/sweet coppin refill!
Spent summer seeing house martins pretty much solo this evening seeing lots of them feeding bugs together in damp weather if they haven't departed for warmer climates before/during @rosscider.bsky.social fest i'll be shocked! A non technological way of saying it's nearly apple/pear harvest time!
Not a variety I'm familiar with but an absolute joy! Nothing from 99 PINES disappoints. Has time in the bottle has possibly changed those SAT ratings due to bottle conditioning or maturation maybe... or is it just my palate, however it's still a fabulous perry.
No barrel aging just straight up dry Bulmers Norman tannins from 24 with rare rib eye, chips, Italian Stilton 😉😂😋😋😋
Five Demi-John's of blended Perry all treated the same. However, only two have got to this level of clarity ready for bottling. Oh well, they'll just sit there till patience and time says it's ready.
Been a pleasure chatting with Anna this week about my sweet perry. It's a cracking beautiful debut article, already looking forward to what's next from her.
The Yew Tree Cider Trials: Yes, Your Peers are Judging You. In her first solo piece for Cider Review, Anna Stephenson heads to the Yew Tree Cider Trials, where community judging reigns supreme and a bamboozling blind tasting flight threatens to dissolve her sense of what’s dry and sweet.
A simpler Friday evening in garden, saying farewell to the last of this yarlington mill/balls bittersweet blend! However the next chapter is a bulmers Norman solo showcase!
Good job there as more liquids at the 99 pines bar than this national perry pear centre wetlands.. 😯 all the wetland bods must have scarpered months ago! A lovely afternoon chatting, nibbling and sipping away, reaffirming once again it's life simple pleasures that bring contentment!
Taste of turkey for breakfast - Çılbır
Thirsty work upgrading and preparing a prawn cocktail to main course yer know!
I've had worst Mondays @rosscider.bsky.social this Newbridge perry really does bring out the chicken and ham flavours from this pengethley farmshop pasty from up the road 😋
Train snackage sorted, day tripping to stockport for a guided pub tour! Apart from from one fantastic pub going above and beyond for cider that's it's for apples/pears so looking forward to a day of different beers from the norff.
All cleaned up and ready for biscuit barrel duty once more! Happy memories sneaking biscuits out of him at the grandparents in the 90s. All the classics - club, viscount, breakaway, fox classic, gold. Penguins.
Sent down some entries to the British cider championships at the royal bath and west show at the beginning of the week.Got a message to say I'd got best in class Friday evening. Wasn't seriously expecting that. Well done to everyone else who'd entered.
Purists might moan about T20, but it's done a dam fine job of getting me interested in cricket. Nice weather for a cracking evening down at trent bridge
A brew, birdsong and blossom as far as the eye can see. Beautiful tranquil start to the day.
Annual Big Apple Blossomtime weekend, that means hobbit mode. Thirsty work unpacking, tasting cracking knowing 50% of the blend was picked 50yard away 😋
Big apple Blossomtime next weekend, thought I ought to taste a few bottles over the next coming days. This perry is currently in reserve candidate spot. Better than last Saturday's bottle which was a nope.
Hidden verse for starting in the newish pentrich taproom at Ripley
Hardly the weather but a cunning dumpling plan for the duck perry stew from yesterday
Yellow sticker duck legs and some leftover frozen perry pear juice, I'd be qauckers not to give it a go!
I have a Mon-Thurs holiday gap in July, wanting somewhere in Europe preferably with a cider/perry vibe, I've ticked of Poland,Czech,Latvia,Hungary. Any suggestions bluesky friends/cider community?
Too little for a demi John, just a tadge to high in SG for bottle, tasting too great for the drain. Go on then you've done the hard graft for the week!
All the hype of a rare perry pear and a Christmas present mouse drainpour, so disappointed! At least it's only a 375ml wasted. At least the bottle will be more enjoyable through re-filling. Felt really bad pouring it away in front of those who bought it me! 😞😞
