Abstraction isn’t necessarily a 1:1 allegory for death by suicide so much as it’s like losing oneself in any kind of mental health spiral, including addiction. How everyone visits Jax and the other abstractions also reminds me of visiting a loved one in long-term care or inpatient treatment.

Despite the horrible situations that shaped Jax and explain why he made so many bad choices, they DO NOT absolve him. It’s human to feel some sorrow over how unfortunate he turned out, but still not forgive him for how he hurt others and never atoned for any of it.

Jax’s story is a cautionary tale; he doubles down on his poor coping mechanisms and won’t open up, even as he makes himself and others miserable. I feel the best reaction to him is pity - shaking our heads at him, noting where he went wrong and HOW he became that way so we don’t end up like him.

Until Goose says something, its totally fine to continue using he/him pronouns for Jax, i believe it was meant to be strongly implied but left to interpretation, but also some ppl need to stop getting mad at others for using she/her for Jax either because I've seen both 😮‍💨💀💀💀
