Preliminary observations on vertical habitat use and diving behavior of juvenile smooth hammerhead sharks Sphyrna zygaena in the western North Atlantic - Animal Biotelemetry
Marine animals inhabit a three-dimensional environment, which necessitates knowledge of both horizontal and vertical movements to understand the scope of their habitat use. Large-bodied hammerhead sha...

Dusky sharks, an apex predator similar to great white sharks, are expected to be active off Cape Cod this summer amid a historic comeback for the species, experts say.
After 40 years, these sharks are returning to Cape Cod waters. Here’s what scientists want you to know. - The Boston Globe
Because the sharks prefer warmer waters, they could be particularly active off Cape Cod this summer, one expert said.

One of the more poignant and under appreciated moments in Jaws is when the privileged politician finally decides to do the right thing because he was suddenly personally affected. #Jaws50

Dawdy at #AES25 #JMIH25 : Cownose ray threats include targeted culling based on a misunderstanding of a disputed scientific paper- “save the bay eat a ray” was a slogan at the time. (I cite this as an example of public misunderstanding of conservation and how it has real world impacts)
Taking my kids swimming with feeding whale sharks last week was definitely a top Proud Dad moment. The conditions off Isla Mujeres, Mexico were excellent. Sticking our heads in the sand for a few days was also therapeutic.
These scientists will be posting from the upcoming Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists #JMIH25 #AES25 ! Give them a follow, and let me know if I should add you! go.bsky.app/8EaDAnG 🧪🌎🦑🦈🐠
This week I was excited to introduce my kids to whale sharks! We visited an aggregation site off Isla Mujeres, Mexico, where we got up close and personal while following responsible guidelines. Hoping this gets them hooked on more shark adventures in the future! #WhaleShark 🦈

Proud to share that my second dissertation chapter is now published in Oecologia! Great hammerheads often eat other elasmobranchs, which suggests there must be some kind of advantage to going after big prey instead of smaller fish. (1/4)🦑🧪🌊🐟
