Peter Magyar and his Tisza Party wins with such an overwhelming victory that he has two-thirds of the seats in the parliament and can undo Orban's autocratic legalism!
The polls have closed in Hungary - and it appears that turnout will approach 80%, a post-communist record.
the election office just updated (at 8:12 CET) -- with 6.6% of the vote counted, Tisza is projected at 110 seats to Fidesz 71. If that holds (and it's still VERY early), Tisza wins.

Periodic reminder: this isn’t just an election. It’s either a popular uprising against Orbán or an authoritarian mobilization to keep him in power. (And it can absolutely be both.)

Twenty years ago, I was learning to teach at Columbia University, and for all I know, I could have TA-ed a student like Mahmood Khalil, who has been arrested by ICE and flown out of state by ICE agents, all while holding a green card.
The choice of Columbia in particular shows that there's *no* amount of suppression of pro-Palestinian speech a university can engage in that will insulate and protect it; so might as well try to do the right thing, which Columbia has determinedly avoided since October 7. www.gsa.gov/about-us/new...
