To be clear, I just thought this was funny. I won't extrapolate from dumb tweets to "society is collapsing!" But for the curious it started with some tech bro saying he was reading The Hobbit to his kids, who liked it, and it inspired a lot of comments like this:

Have you ever read it??? It’s 100% not a children’s book and whoever says that is lying to you. Not only is the vernacular dated and elaborate but the sentence structure and lengthy writing is often hard to get your head around as an adult. You know what? I think I will. Ellipsus is the ONLY Googledocs replacement I can find that has "AI free" as a selling point rather than a concession. Not "opt-out", not "We hear you", they LEGALLY STATE they don't use Gen AI or LLMs. Plus it's easy to use and feels nice. I want to support that.

Idaho health officials are investigating how nearly 60 people got sick after drinking raw milk in the past two weeks. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says they didn't name two dairies potentially linked to the outbreak “because this is a potential risk for any raw milk producer.”

"the em dash means you used ai" "the oxford comma means you used ai" "the semi-colon means you used ai" should all authors now just resort to absolutely no grammar or punctuation in their works whatsoever so people who don't even read leave us alone
