The problem with VAR in Scotland isn't VAR itself. It's the implementation of it, and the people trusted to operate it. Couldn't trust them to officiate a game fairly without VAR. Can't trust them to officiate with it.
I think that's McInnes' 9th attempt at qualifying for the group/league phase in Europe as a manager, and the 9th time he's failed. He's consistent.
Last night's result wasn't just a boot in the baws for Celtic, but also Scotland. By reaching the league phase, we'd have added a guaranteed 1.2pts to Scotland's coefficient. Instead, our meltdown handed those points to Austria who, as a result, have now jumped above Scotland in the rankings.
Zagreb, Basel, Bratislava, Arsenal, Braga, Maribor, Malmo, AEK, Cluj, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, Kairat, & LASK. The 13 teams who have knocked us out of CL qualifiers over the years. We've failed in 13 of our 20 CL qualification attempts, and all of our last 6 attempts. An abysmal record.
Sick of saying it. More often than not, what screws us over in Europe isn't a lack of talent but a lack of composure. Once it goes we rarely get it back again. Tonight was a perfect example. One blunder from Nygren causes us to lose a goal, and then we fell apart.
Can't say LASK didn't deserve it over the two legs. Tonight was an absolute bin fire of a performance from us. It's the culmination of years of boardroom negligence. But there's plenty of blame to go around.

Great result, leaving us in a fantastic position for the 2nd leg. And 3 brilliant goals. We played some great stuff going forward - a much better tempo than last season. Still some work to do at the back. We looked ropey at times. The squad is paper thin, though, so work to be done there as well.

The meltdown following England getting turfed out the World Cup is right up there with the meltdown that followed Celtic winning the league. It might even be better. Glorious stuff.

After days of manufactured outrage over VAR correctly giving Celtic a penalty at Fir Park, let's not forget that the most outrageous call by an official over the last 7 days occured at Celtic Park on Saturday. Not a peep from those screaming about the standard of officiating after Fir Park.
If you'd said in August that Martin O'Neill would lead Celtic to the title on the last day of the season by beating long time leaders Hearts, people would have thought you'd gone mad. It really has been the most bizarre season.
Sometimes a league is won on the back on the finest of margins. We won 26 league games this season. In 11 of them we scored the winning goal from the 80th minute on. In 7 of those it came in added time. Fair play to the team for continually finding a way to win games, even where it looked unlikely
Reverting to a Wilfried Nancy 3 at the back that included one central defender and two full backs was not how I saw us winning the league. But here we are. YAAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!
The last 24 hours have seen the most ridiculous and hilarious over-reaction to a refereeing decision in a football game since the last time a Scottish ref made a decision that worked to Celtic's advantage. It's almost as if there's an agenda in how the Scottish football media reacts to such things.
Getting 3pts was all that mattered. But that was a really poor performance. Playing against 10 men for over 70 minutes gave us a great chance to eat into the goal difference. Obviously not helped by one of the more outrageous examples of hun refereeing. Still in the race, though.

Brilliant to turn that around and get a point after a dreadful 1st half. But we've left ourselves a mountain to climb now in the league. If MON can pull it off it'll be one of his greatest achievents, because we are rotten. Once again, hun players are allowed to foul at will by hun refs.
1. We're on course for our worst league performance this century. Our current 2pts per game would mean just 76pts over the course of the full season, 1pt worse off than the 20/21 Covid monstrosity.
