Claude is already placed 2nd in cpython github contributions. Makes me wonder if spending money on tokens is a better way of supporting an open source project than sponsoring it directly. My take would be that yes, at least currently. Your tokens are still subsidized by corporate, but long term?

Python contributors by number of commits in the last month

Almost all coding subscriptions renew at the start of the month. Github contribution charts are going to look pretty funny with all commits in the first week and then silence.

current github edu benefits include astonishing 2 USD in copilot requests per month + the integrated web copilot "coding agent" is like 3x more expensive 🙏 how is it possible the a company that has a sole purpose of supporting developers has the worst coding agent and toolset?
