Sheep scab during lambing is often preventable. Screen returning sheep with blood tests (at least 12 per group), detect infection before clinical signs & treat before lambing. If confirmed in pregnant ewes, OP dips and ML injectables are safe—dip small groups in a cage dipper to reduce stress.

Sheep scab at lambing = act fast. Outbreaks are hard and distressing, especially for young lambs. Key steps: 1) treat ewes first 2) OP‑dip where possible 3) if not, use a long‑acting ML to prevent reinfestation 4) reduce stress and mismothering. Stop the ewe–lamb cycle.

⭐ Treating lambs for sheep scab⭐ All lambs must be treated, but how and when depends on age and weight: ✔ OP dipping only once navels are healed (~8 weeks) ✔ Under 15kg → specific ML options only ✔ Dose accurately for every lamb ⚠ Treat too late and ewes may need treating again.

🐑 When sheep scab is confirmed, treatment options are limited: ➡ Macrocyclic lactone (ML) injectables ➡ Organophosphate (OP) plunge dipping But...⚠ ML resistance is confirmed in the UK. So...⚠ Avoid routine or preventative use. ✔ OP dipping remains highly effective when done correctly👍️

Not all itching is sheep scab… Sheep scab can be confused with lice, but treating the wrong problem wastes time, money and risks spread. ✔ Confirm with your vet ✔ Skin scrape + ELISA is best practice ✔ A negative scrape doesn’t rule scab out The right diagnosis is the first step toward control.
