We met with Jochen Flasbarth today during the negotiations of the #plasticstreaty in Geneva. Our message 36 hours before the closing was clear: 📣 A weak treaty is worse than no treaty. Germany and the other ambitious countries need to keep up ambition and agree on a treaty that cuts production.

#Plastikabkommen Tag 1: Stimmung ist angespannt. Streit gibt es v.a. um den Geltungsbereich & Plastikproduktion. Positiv: 2/3 der Staaten wollen, dass durch Abstimmung auf den COPs das Abkommen zukünftig gestärkt und angepasst werden kann – so viel Zuspruch für ein Konferenzpapier gab es noch nie.

Gemeinsam mit @greenpeace.org und anderen NGOs habe ich gestern Abend vor dem UN-Gebäude für ein starkes Plastikabkommen demonstriert. Warum? Heute startet INC 5.2 – die entscheidende Verhandlungsrunde zum UN-Plastikabkommen. Es gilt als das wichtigste internationale Umweltabkommen seit Paris.

Gestern im Umweltministerium: Übergabe @greenpeace.de-Petition + konstruktives Gespräch mit @martinkaiser.bsky.social und @jochenflasbarth.bsky.social Unsere Botschaft: Um die Plastikflut einzudämmen, braucht es eine Senkung der Produktion sowie Verbote von Einwegplastik + gefährlichen Chemikalien.

♻️ Recycling reicht nicht – Plastikkrise ist mehr als Müllproblem. 🔍 @wuppertalinstitut.bsky.social-Studie: Selbst bei optimiertem Recycling braucht dt. Am Sonntag gab es einen Störfall in einer Plastik-Produktionsanlage in Oberhausen. Dabei ist weißes Plastikpulver freigesetzt worden. Das Pulver landete in umliegenden Gärten. Expert*innen raten nun betroffenes offenporiges Gemüse nicht mehr zu verzehren. 👉 Mehr dazu im WAZ-Artikel
